Realtrain,

It literally wasn't. He paid way more than what the stock was worth. (Hence why he desperately tried to get out of it, and why the board desperately tried to make sure he had to go through with it.)

Realtrain,

He's said before that he hates it, but including one of those thumbnails boosts viewership by 30%. I certainly don't like it, but it would be really hard for me to resist that extra income too.

Realtrain,

And not even as a genericized term. (Google and Xerox HATE that they're used as verbs.)

"Tweet" is only ever used to describe posting to Twitter. It's a very unique position that's about as ideal as it gets for a company brand.

Realtrain,

"Hell yes we're going to take your guns" is not the best slogan when running for governor of Texas.

Realtrain,

I just realized that "Google Chat" and "Chat Messages" are to complete different things. Insane.

Realtrain,

It's extremely interesting to me how China's SCS claims permeate through big business. It's no coincidence they used a china-friendly map.

Realtrain,

Do we have a magazine version of r/nottheonion?

Reddit activated a word filter that whenever you say "fuck spez", your comment won't show up for anyone else. I just tested it on ModCoord. they're also deleting spez memes from the subs they nuked lol

r/ModCoord: The admins in charge of demodded subreddits are mass-removing images of Huffman previously shared on them...

Realtrain,

The board must be getting tired of this by now. He's showing that he doesn't know how to handle their user base.

Realtrain,

That's the loan payments pause, not the forgiveness program

Realtrain,

If nothing else, student loans should no longer be exempt from bankruptcy. Makes no sense that any basically any debt can be forgiven except that one specific type for some reason.

Realtrain,

Just a reminder that things rarely actually get deleted in the software world. Instead a flag is flipped to is_deleted=true

Building a smart home in 2023, where to start?

Hey all, we're moving into a new place soon and I want to start making it a smart home. I have some experience with wifi-based smart bulbs from TP-Link Kasa and a ring camera, but that's about it. I need to update the switches in the house anyway, so I figure that's a good place to start....

Realtrain, (edited )

Voat's problem was that it became VERY political very quickly. Hopefully we won't see that happen again, but I'm sure some of these substitutes will end up that way.

I have a feeling in reality most of them will die out, but enthusiasts (especially tech enthusiasts) will keep one alive, sort of like reddit in the early days.

Realtrain,

It also appeared right when Reddit started cracking down on ultra-right-wing stuff. I'm sure that didn't help.

This time is power-users/tech people that Reddit has alienated, so it'll be interesting to see how that influences some of these replacements.
