Retrofitted Assimilator Pack giveaway (Epic Games accts only) (store.epicgames.com)

Please note, this is the Epic Games giveaway for the Retrofitted Assimilator Pack, which is different from the other two giveaways posted earlier. Claiming this pack requires signing in with the Epic launcher. I haven't tried this yet, but I believe this will only work if your STO account was created via Epic....

Borg Generator Pack giveaway (Cutting Tractor Beam console, 12 bank slots) (games.steelseries.com)

Copy pasta below. To claim the pack, you gotta create a SteelSeries account, get a key, then sign into your StarTrekOnline.com account and enter the key there. FYI I'm hearing some people are actually receiving 12 inventory slots instead of bank slots, so the pack description might be a mistype....

"Bong" is an English word, but it has Thai origins. It's pretty common in other Asian languages like Mandarin, Filipino, Vietnamese. TBH I knew that but I wasn't sure about the actual meaning, so I looked it up...

and of course, it does refer to the kind of bong you smoke out of 🌿 lol

Motherfucker! Omg lol you dirty motherfucker!!

I'm glad you brought this up, Indy. I admit I haven't given much thought to this, but I think in the long run it would be more helpful if we had some kind of build post standard, preferably a sustainable one.

I still feel really out of touch WRT all the different STO communities out there, but it's my impression that STO Academy has been abandoned; their fleets are no longer maintained, leadership has stepped away from daily operations, and from what I hear the site's domain name is set to expire in a couple of months. TBH I don't expect their skill planner to get updated, as no one appears to be at the helm over there. Yeah, it's a bummer, I was a member for a brief time back during my first STO run, and their community and tools were very helpful. Pour one out for STO Academy, brah!

I'm not sure why r/stobuilds hasn't updated their templates yet, but I know their site (stobuilds.com) has a build planner tool called SETS. I haven't used it yet, but it's actively maintained and it looks like someone added T6-X2 a couple of weeks ago. And FWIW, it does support Markdown export:

Also you can save and share your builds as JavaScript Object Notation (.json) or Portable Network Graphic (.png) file and even an in markdown pre-formatted text export optimized for Reddit posts is included.

Dunno if this would work for us. I have some time tomorrow, I'll download it and see if I can get a clean Markdown export.

Anyone else? Any other ideas?

Redhotkurt,

@Indy this is how mine turned out. Yeah, I see what you mean about the install, you gotta install Python then download and manually organize SETS's installation files. It's tedious, and the interface is slightly clunky, but it does work. What I don't like is there's no way to duplicate items in the loadout, and it's a real PITA to properly add details about the item if it has modifiers. It's missing a couple of things here and there, but overall the inventory side does appear to be current (or at least as current as STOwiki.net is).

Also, I learned the hard way that you have to select your ship and everything on the left before adding gear, or you'll lose your gear loadout if you suddenly remember to set the ship class lol. And it took me a second to realize you gotta change the "Save as type" to save it in JSON format, so it's good it has an autosave thing running. I mean, this app does work, but it's still in progress and needs more than just a little bit of polish. I can't help but think it would be better off as a web app since it's kinda limiting to have it available for PC only... and ya know, I was thinking maybe I could contribute to their codebase and help out, but JFC I do enough dev work during the day and this would just kill the fun for me. I mean, it would be fun at first, but it could easily start feeling like work real quick. Sigh.

Yeah, I dunno, I'm not sure SETS is something most people would be comfortable using. @Perrin42, what do you think?

Aight here goes, I'm pasting my build:

This value is too long. It should have 5000 characters or less.

Ah shit, what? Damn, I gotta split this up.

Area of effect?

Good catch, there's only one cock involved! Clearly they should use single target weapons, AOE attacks on a single target are suboptimal and are just gonna result in lower DPS. You're never gonna encounter multiple cocks in every combat scenario (lol we should all be so lucky), so you gotta adapt to the situation. Use the right weapon ability!! IDK, maybe OP is a noob.

What, you don't enjoy being gaslit by edgy fascist teenagers? No? Maybe the genocide denial appeals to you. Still no? Well, I guess you're beyond help, then.

Edit: it has been nine hours since I posted this comment. In that amount of time, numerous users from the Hexbear instance have since rolled in and - in typical fashion - trolled everyone's comments with varying degrees of denial, condescension, edginess, and sheer immaturity. Every comment but mine. Not one of them challenged what I said. Not a single one. No one replied, aside from @orphiebaby, who is the OP and decidedly not a genocide-denying fascist. The silence on this topic tells you everything you need to know about the Hexbears and what they're really about.

edit: if you dig deeper (and I don't blame you if you don't), you'll find a lot more than just annoying posts over there. It's full of right wing propaganda

Heh, now I'm feeling inspired to dress my entire away team like the Borg. I'm getting a little bored of the Fed uniform, time to change things up a little.

Ernest, we love you, man. FYI the complaints about Kbin come from a very vocal minority; most of us understand managing a project like this is difficult and do not have these gripes. We will be fine, please take care of yourself and your family first. Btw thanks for everything you have done for us.

FBI Hoovered Up Over 21 Million DNA Profiles — 7% of the U.S. (www.kenklippenstein.com)

The FBI is moving “ever closer to a universal DNA database,” as an expert told me in a story I reported for The Intercept recently. The FBI now possesses 21 million DNA profiles — equivalent to 7% of the U.S. population — a proportion rivaling that of China, not exactly a privacy haven....

Stray is being turned into a movie (www.theverge.com)

Stray, the hit Annapurna Interactive game starring a cat, is getting a “feature adaptation” from Annapurna Animation, according to a press release. Annapurna didn’t share much else about the movie — we still don’t know when it might come out or what it might look like — but if you were a fan of the game and looking...

Annapurna? I love their games! Stray is awesome, I gotta back and finish it.

Do Journey next! That game is a fuckin trip, man. I'd love to see if they can transfer that magic to the big screen.

DillaZirk posted the total cost of his 500k ISA energy build, and it was sobering $1200 total for traits, consoles, upgrades etc. I have (had?) several high end builds, with top shelf traits for pets, EPG and energy. Not all of that was bought at sticker, but even with lifetime stipend and grinding I'm still in far more $ and time than I care to think about.

That's a crazy high amount to drop in a game, but it's not at all surprising if you've played for a while (nobodyspecial, Perrin, Indy, I'm counting all you guys in that). Still crappy, though. I mean, let's say you want the Universal Designs trait that comes with the Crossfield Science Spearhead Refit, you're gonna have to drop real world money on it, right? It's a lockbox ship, so you gotta drop real cash to spend on the keys to open the lock boxes (gamble) in hopes that you'll get it. If you wanna open 100 boxes, you need 100 keys at 12,500 zen (when not on sale), which is the equivalent of $125 USD. That's just one ship! And you're not guaranteed to get a ship that way. It's nuts.

There's a free option, but it's just as shitty. You could grind dilithium to convert to Zen and buy the ship that way, but how long would that take? If you grind dilithium with two toons, you can earn 16,000 dilithium, the equivalent of 32 zen, every day (dilithium:zen exchange rate is about 500:1). At that rate it would take you 390 days logging in every single day to save up for those keys, and you're still not guaranteed to get one because it's an RNG loot box! So yeah, it certainly is possible to acquire it for "free," but at what personal cost? Over a year's worth of grinding just for the chance to get that ship, and you wouldn't be able to spend dilithium on any of the other pay-gated stuff they dangle in front of us, or it would take longer. I mean.... you could always grind four toons instead of two, but again, at what personal cost? You'd have to log in and earn and refine dilithium for those fuckin toons every single day for 195 days, which is still a lot of time! Frick, that's over half a year. At that point, it sounds really appealing to just drop the money on zen to acquire the keys.

I mean, you guys already know it's exploitative. I know I'm preaching to the choir here. Just venting. It's just....ugh, I love the game, love Trek, but the way Cryptic manipulates and exploits their player base (for the thing they love, at that!) is really shitty. This is not in the spirit of Trek.
