Where will nsfw content end up if it's in the end banned from all major platforms? E.g. reddit (likely sooner or later with the API changes), imgur and tumblr (already happened), twitter might happen too but might just burn down before they can make that change.. The internet is surely shifting to a shareholder-friendly corporate space.

What's your tradition and how did you make the choice?

I practice Chan, Chinese Zen. The Chan temple was just the Buddhist centre closest to me, but I've never regretted the choice. I like the bodhisattva vows, and appreciate the focus on meditation. I'm also a fan of Chinese culture, and I like the traditions of Chan more than Japanese Zen. What about you?

While larger, more general communities are thriving on the Fediverse - I'm missing out on the niche communities

Gaming, news, tech, general literature. All of these are somewhat thriving, with a steady influx of posts and comments. At the same time, the userbase is sorely lacking for more niche communities. In my case it'd be stuff like poetry, yoga, religion, linguistics, meditation. Or many other communities I'd doubt they'd form a...

Just because it'd require a larger momentum than what we have now. But yes, I've been trying to contribute as well, so I'm trying to not sit idly by. I might just be a tad pessimistic, even though I like what we're all trying to do.

While I'm quite left wing, I have huge problems with them (as well as the main dev) being authoritarian, genocide-defending tankies. That praise China, Russia and DPRK. It's maddening.

I mean, you don't have to be a tankie that defends North Korea or the uighur genocides, to respect those values? Which is the main problem with Lemmy devs and main instances.

Why is everyone developing apps for Lemmy and not Kbin?

How many people here have taken the refuge vows? Why or why not?

Just curious. I refer to myself as Buddhist-ish. I read some dharma at least weekly if not daily, struggle thru weekly seated meditation, and recite the Loving Kindness meditation daily. But I don't have a Sangha near me and likely wouldn't join one even if there was one available.

I have. I did it 1,5 years after my practice started. It just felt right, and it's been feeling more and more right over the years.

"The Summer Day by Mary Oliver

Who made the world? Who made the swan, and the black bear? Who made the grasshopper? This grasshopper, I mean— the one who has flung herself out of the grass, the one who is eating sugar out of my hand, who is moving her jaws back and forth instead of up and down— who is gazing around with her enormous and complicated eyes. Now she lifts her pale forearms and thoroughly washes her face. Now she snaps her wings open, and floats away. I don't know exactly what a prayer is. I do know how to pay attention, how to fall down into the grass, how to kneel down in the grass, how to be idle and blessed, how to stroll through the fields, which is what I have been doing all day. Tell me, what else should I have done? Doesn't everything die at last, and too soon? Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?"

Wishing you a beautiful solstice, whether you're ushering in summer or winter. May yours be a season of joy and meaning ✨

@josh I was just reading this poem today. Thanks for sharing, I love Mary Oliver. A treasure.

I don't think I agree. The federation should be a big part of kbin.social, and right now it's just centralized.

But to be fair, the CloudFlare DDoS protection needs to be dropped so kbin.social, where most users and content are, is able to federate properly. This is a huge obstacle, especially when some are complaining that we need to register on other instances and not crash this one (e.g. fedia.io). Fedia has pretty much no content.

OC The branding for kbin is perfect

The branding for kbin is perfect for capturing the reddit migrators. The biggest friction point for the Fediverse is choosing an instance. If I want to join Lemmy, googling Lemmy takes me to a landing page with no join button, telling me to go to these other sites. Some of these sites even actively discourage signups, creating...

The issue with fedia is that pretty much all content is on kbin.social, if you don't want to check out other Lemmy instances. Kbin.social having CloudFlare on centralizes the ecosystem to kbin.social, as it can't federate and most users and content is on here.

Eco-fascists love him. Those guy that pretend to be anarchist, but are in fact, just racist and authoritarian fascists.
