The problem is every lemmy instance features links to donate to devs by default. Removing it is kind of a moral dilemma of using someone's software without contributing, so it's better to just not use it all.
@73ms I don't see a problem with removing it from existing sites that can't reasonably change at this point - I actually convinced Beehaw to do so. However, if someone is looking to spin up an instance at this point, there are alternatives.
You haven't seen it, because you're using kbin, but every unaltered lemmy instance has a donate link in the top bar on every page of the site. So, yes, they do profit off it.
on kbin we have reputation, which is nearly impossible to keep positive, because it counts downvotes but not upvotes. They are working on fixing it though.
From what I've gathered, Ernest had been trying to follow general fediverse conventions where possible (boosts and @ at the beginning of mags), but in the meantime Lemmy got popular, so he's going back to make things more lemmylike. Reputation got caught in the middle.
The problem is many Lemmy instances don't use downvotes (like beehaw), so posts and replies from those sites will unnaturally rise to the top and drown out other users.
what is better for single user instance, or maybe something small like under 10 users (no communities)? which is lighter on resources? how much storage should I allocate?...
Is it possible with a script to add a context link to posts in a users profile? Since notifications aren't working reliably, it would be nice to quickly get back to a comment to see if someone responded.
edit: There is already copy url under "more" which gives me some hope.
how dare you use talent and skill to make these! I was working making stable diffusion spit out something useful. full prompt below

Okay I saw this posted a lot and apparently it is pretty common but why do people virtualize your nas in for example a proxmox server/cluster. If that goes down it gets super hard to get your data back than if you do it bare Metal, doesn't it? Are people only doing it so save on seperate devices or are my concerns unreasonable?
Hey guys, I don't know CSS at all and was directed here for assistance. I'd like to make these grey panels on top of my background black and a bit transparent for a sleeker look, is this possible? and if so, how? Thank you so much!
edit: two weeks later and i have learned css and html well enough to make some cool stuff, albeit simple. same with JS.
how surprised should i be that lemmy.ml mods banned !ukraine@lemmy.ml?

I personally dont but why do you think ppl care so much about being downvoted on internet chat forums?
Still learning the rules of this room by the way so bear with me
Which to host for a single user instance: lemmy or kbin (or others)?

OC kbin Linked Comment Enhancer - Highlight comments that you open links to and scrolls to prevent them from being hidden (greasyfork.org)
This script highlights comments when you open a link to them, and scrolls to the comment to make sure it doesn't get hidden....

Can we stop showing NSFW subs on the sidebar?
There's a few NSFW communities who keep getting advertised on the sidebar, showing an inappropriate photo. I don't care to see it.
