I'm planning to self-host a Reddit like instance for myself, but I'm between Lemmy and kbin . Essentially I want to host my own data, and jump into discussions from other communities.
With a limited search results, people praise for #kbin, and bash #lemmy developers about their world and political views, however Lemmy is written with #rust, and Kbin with #php .
I just want to migrate to what people will be using to.
Hi there! I’m running my own lemmy instance, but considering starting up a kbin instance as well, mostly because PHP is my favorite programming language.
I’m wondering what system specs you used for your instance? What is a good hosting provider? I currently use digital ocean, but wondering if there are cheaper options out there.
Hey guys, I don't know CSS at all and was directed here for assistance. I'd like to make these grey panels on top of my background black and a bit transparent for a sleeker look, is this possible? and if so, how? Thank you so much!
edit: two weeks later and i have learned css and html well enough to make some cool stuff, albeit simple. same with JS.
How do I delete my account in kbin.social? Or change my username? When I delete my account, the request is submitted but account has existed for days now. And I don't see a way to change username.
Hi everyone! I'm the mod of @drugs, and I've been adding some guides for harm reduction to the magazine. However, it seems like the threads I've posted don't show up on the main page for it. Does anyone know why this would be?
How are username collisions handled since there is no centeralized userbase for the fediverse. Or is it just not an issue since the magazines of different instances are disjoined, Sorry I'm trying to figure this out as I assume the majority of us are.
I'm not sure I understand why "Threads" and "Microblogs" are separate entities in kbin. From my understanding, "Threads" are like Reddit's link/image posts and "Microblogs" are like text posts. Why are these only viewable in separate tabs? It seems like a bad thing to completely separate certain content from the same Magazine and make it unable to view everything at once. Am I misunderstanding something?
@bleuy007 A microblog post is like a tweet, it doesn't have a title. They are pulled in from all of the fediverse based on tags the moderator applies to their magazine.
I think there are legality issues there. Something the mod can do is add tags to the magazine (pulls from full fediverse) so the microblog page will at least have some content.
edit: there are also at least 4 selfhosted communities spread through the "threadiverse" which is not ideal.
