I'm self-hosting the docker containers and I noticed the pictrs directory is steadily growing because of the cached images. Does anyone know if it gets cleaned up automatically or are hosters running scripts to clean it up after a certain amount of time? The install guides make no mention of it from what I can find.
A fellow mod informed me that about it as I was laying in bed. Reddit sent a message to the mod team and after 1 hour demoded me. I didn't even had time to see it, never-mind respond to it....
Obvious that this is automated and will be going out to all subs. They definitely wouldn't go to bat to keep a piracy sub open, unless they're even dumber than I thought.
The instance seems to be mostly right wing trolls. I know defederating is unpopular but I don't think much is to be lost in this case and it can save the mods some headaches....
Considering that lemmy.ml deletes ap news or bbc articles for being "orientalism." Up until recently there hasn't been a server for anyone right of Mao.
Here's a start. The people who run lemmy.ml and lemmygrad are pro-genocide tankies, that think any critisism of the ccp is orientalism. He's bad enough he was banned from r/socialism
How do you set up a server? Do you do any automation or do you just open up an SSH session and YOLO? Any containers? Is docker-compose enough for you or are you one of those unicorns who had no issues whatsoever with rootless Podman? Do you use any premade scripts or do you hand craft it all? What distro are you building on top...
I used to do the same, but nowadays I just run everything in docker, within a single lxc container on proxmox. Having to setup mono or similar every time I wanted to setup a game server or even jellyfin was annoying.
I'm trying to start out self-hosting and was looking for some good servers. I have a budget of ~100 USD and am in the US. I was initially going to get some type of raspberry pi but they seem to always be sold out here
EDIT: Sorry I did not make this clear. I am not presenting this as a techincal problem for admins to solve, but as a community problem. The kbin.social community as the larger instance is not seeking out communities from the smaller instances....
Hey everyone. I'm new to all this - as are most people I realize - but I've been really enjoying Lemmy so far. I'm subscribed to alternatives here of subreddits I frequented on Reddit and been participating in discussions and engaging with the communities as well. Overall, it's been good!...
My apologies for the probably stupid question, I’m still trying to get a grip on the interoperability between services in the Fediverse. I have both a kbin and a Lemmy account, still checking which fits me the best. If I’m on one of them, can I follow a magazine when being on Lemmy, or the opposite?...
Searching seems strange, but you can use the full kbin url. If its a magazine lemmy.world already knows about you can just type it direcly after the c/. ie - https://lemmy.world/c/RedditMigration@kbin.social . They are case sensitive unlike lemmy.
Since rpis have been almost impossible to find, I've been looking around for alternatives for some local self hosted services like home assistant. A lot of boards seem to talk about GPU, GPIO pins, etc. But I really just want a single board, fanless (low power), decent CPU and RAM, ethernet....

Can we stop showing NSFW subs on the sidebar?
There's a few NSFW communities who keep getting advertised on the sidebar, showing an inappropriate photo. I don't care to see it.
Lemmy self-hosters. What is your image cleanup process?

Mates, today without warning, the reddit royal navy attacked. I've been demoded by the admins. (lemmy.dbzer0.com)

Hey could we defederate with exploding-heads.com/

OC Kbin instances seem more isolated from each other than from Lemmy instances

Can Lemmy & Kbin interface with eachother?

What's the Bitwarden of 2 Factor authentication? Assamese
Hey, I need to move one day of Google Authenticator, and I was wondering if their was a project like Bitwarden for 2 Factor Authentication...
Can I follow a kbin magazine from Lemmy?

OC Are links supposed to be duplicated?
Right now, I can see the same link several times on the front page, repeated across different magazines. Here's an example:...
