Probably going to get downvoted for this, but I tend to agree that AA, as it stood, had run its course. Getting rid of it now clears the way for new and better solutions.

When I read these excerpts from this article https://news.northeastern.edu/2023/06/29/supreme-court-affirmative-action/ - I get a strong sense that AA really just allowed schools to be lazy.

“Universities all across the country will begin to experiment with a whole variety of admissions techniques that are race-neutral in the sense that race is not an explicit factor, but not race-neutral in the sense that they’re intended to produce diversity,” says Jeremy R. Paul, a professor of law and former dean of the Northeastern University School of Law.

Paul says many universities are going to have to up their recruitment efforts, increase partnerships with community colleges and high-poverty high schools, and invest more in scholarships and financial aid.

“These are things that universities will want to do anyway, because they’re good things to do,” Paul says.

Dan Urman, director of the law and public policy minor at Northeastern, who teaches courses on the Supreme Court, says the ruling means that universities will have to redouble their efforts to maintain diverse student bodies. Urman says there are examples of states opting out of affirmative action policies to mixed results.

“My home state of California abolished affirmative action in 1996 in a vote called Proposition 209, and California universities spent a lot of time and resources recruiting, establishing programs,” he says. “They were able to get diversity, not back to where it was before … but let’s say they were able to avoid some of the worst predictions of what would happen to diversity.”

One potential solution to maintain diversity are so-called percentage plans, where students who graduate at the top of their classes at each respective high school are guaranteed spots in universities. The first percentage plan was signed into law in 1997 in Texas by then-Gov. George W. Bush. It permits any student from “a Texas public high school in the top 10% of his or her class to get into any Texas public college, without any SAT or ACT score.”

Obligatory mention for those who don't know yet : you can find what files a program use by using strace <command> (provided strace is installed). It actually logs all syscalls made by the program, so there will be a lot of noise, but in there you will find the access() and open() calls.

Additionally, if you want to strace programs that already are running in a convenient interface, htop has strace support (this is less useful to find configuration files, as those are usually read at the start of the program, but if you can trigger a save to the file, it will appear here).

Some context on axions.

For decades scientists noticed that quantum phenomena respect something called CP-symmetry, that is a really posh way to say "if you sub your particle with an antiparticle and invert its spatial coordinates, the laws of physics will stay the same". So for example it doesn't really matter if you have an electron at (1,1,1) or a positron at (-1,-1,-1), the effect is the same.

There are some exceptions (called CP violations) but for most part CP-symmetry is a real phenomenon. And one of those violations that could happen is when you're dealing with quarks (the junk that protons and neutrons are composed of). And if something can happen, in quantum mechanics, it will happen. So why don't CP violations happen?

Based on that, in 1977 Roberto Peccei and Helen Quinn predicted a new particle, that they named "axion" after some laundry detergent, as "it washed off the problem" (yup - scientists being silly with names, nothing new). That axion particle would be a really small particle, but with mass (unlike photons), and it compensates the predicted CP violation.

Now, to the link: apparently axions are a real thing, and they explain (at least partially) what dark matter is supposed to be.

I don't know if this helps but starting at roughly 39:00 of this Fermilabs lecture the lecturer mentions that lighter the dark matter particle is more wave like it behaves and so you have to imagine like a "fluid" of waves that can be macroscopic.

I've also settled on Fomapan. I mostly tend to use 200 or 400, but I've also found that pushing the 400 to 1600 to do some night time city shooting is a really fun time.

Definitely depends on my mood, but my go-to's are HP5 and Fomapan 100 because I stocked up on bulk rolls and I'm still working through it. I've also got a little stash of Agfa Cinerex IC1N that I like to shoot with, it's a little slower, but it tends to be quite contrasty without the need for orange/red filters or pusing. This is an older shot from when I was messing around with it, I think from my very first roll.

I'm currently working on an action horror game inspired by Cry of Fear and similar mods.

But in the past I've worked on a fully kinematic parkour character control with wallrunning, grappling, dashing, mantling, etc. Character controllers are probably one of my favorite aspects to program. Something about the vector math and physics just feels good to solve.

I'd suggest that the right way to handle this is, if the "Hide adult content" checkbox under settings is checked, it should prevent this from happening. (Currently it makes no difference, afaict.)
