As the fediverse continues to grow, let's reflect on some of the things that we disliked most about posting/lurking on reddit and what we can do differently now that we have a chance to build something new.
Future Publishing somehow consistently manages to convert every good tech news site into SEO-optimized crap with the most boring UI known to man. I do not trust any of those sites anymore
It's funny how the author calls a ZenBook 14X as a gaming laptop, complains that the fan is too loud and he has to turn down the settings, and still claims it is a better alternative to a PC into which he failed to install an i9 into because he forgot to read the documentation. Massive cope
Trust me, I'd give up on Windows too. If only Linux had better app compatibility; I need to depend on Microsoft Office a lot, and anticheats break games on Linux
AI art is terrible and destroys human creativity. OP worked hard to make the mascots himself and you think you can do something that's better with a bunch of words on a screen? Please do not
Prior to the protest reddit was in full support of the protest. Most polls on subs supported a shutdown. Now, seemingly every community cant understand why the protest was needed and they're calling it a mod power trip. There is a 3rd possibility. This is an unfounded conspiracy but reddit themselves could be manipulating...
My take: The people who were in support of the protest were mostly the 3rd party client users and a lot of them left after the protest, leaving normal users, like myself, who are there for the content only, to vote for the sub to remain open in order to view the content again
And then have no activity in them. Not quite sure why this is happening, is it power hungry idiots thinking if I make fifty magazines, maybe one will be popular?...
The backend is based on Rust, the current web frontend is based on preact. They are working on native Android and iOS apps, and a GTK based desktop client is being planned (but on hold currently). There is potential for an ecosystem of third-party apps due to the API being fully open
I registered a few days ago, the devs are super responsive and friendly, and they have no plans on paywalling features yet. They also have a feature that allows you to bridge a channel between Discord and Revolt to make migration easier
There have been quite a lot of controversial changes that Discord has implemented, chief among which is the new username system that replaces the username#nnnn format that worked for most users with a @username format, under the pretext that "it would be easier for the users"
What were some "bad habits" on reddit that we should try to avoid bringing over here?

OC Google suggesting a garbage sellout article with bad advice. Not like it's hard enough for newcomers to learn about tech or anything.
Microsoft is getting rid of the following File Explorer features on Windows 11 (www.windowscentral.com)
You can say goodbye to these legacy File Explorer options on Windows 11

Did the reddit hivemind do a 180 or are the people left behind just the people who don't care.

How many accounts do you have on lemmy/kbin?
First time posting, but i was wondering if i was the only one who had more than 2 accounts in total on here
Did you reuse your Reddit name or create a new one?
I originally went with the same name but have been using this one now since it's new and the idea of starting fresh appeals to me....
OC Quick, make as many Magazines as possible!

Cross-post from m/technology about a FOSS alternative to discord. (kbin.social)
Revolt, free and open-source alternative to Discord, has hit 100,000 registered users. (revolt.chat)
