This is a pretty low joke, why don't you show some respect here?
I am sure he was under a lot of pressure to run a successful business. Traveling down to the bottom of the ocean is a titanic undertaking. If people started to complain about safety regulations, then that was just the tip of the iceberg and who knows what other obstacles could have cropped up along the way to sink his ship.
Still, this was a deep situation. It's unfathomable to think that anyone could feel nothing about this.
You don't have to feel crushed by the news, but at least show some respect. If I had $250,000 for every rude comment I've read about OceanGate in the last few days...
Production-wise, I thought Bakuen was a fine anime on its own. The animation felt limited in places but the art style and character drawings were very nice, I would say that in this aspect, Bakuen was superior to the original. Also, the OP and ED don't get enough love - bringing back Machico to do the OP was a great callback.
However, it's a strange entry in the Konosuba franchise as a whole, because Bakuen is a much different type of show.
I think a lot of anime-only fans, myself included, probably expected a straight comedy, but Bakuen was instead a very laid back slice of life. The change of tempo between the laugh-a-minute comedy of original Konosuba versus the slower Bakuen probably caused a bit of expectation shock for a lot of watchers.
I found myself not liking Megumin's characterization very much in this series. She has always had that sort of playful mean streak that is generally associated with chuuni characters (peep my pfp) but I thought that the writing leaned too hard on that aspect of her personality and didn't provide enough other opportunities for the viewer to grow more attached to her. Additionally, I have mentioned this before on other forums and started to see some other people recognize this fact as well: one of the key appeals of Konosuba is the dynamic between Kazuma and Aqua; in Bakuen, we have Megumin and Yunyun and their interactions are cute, but they are not nearly as interesting or comical as those of the former duo. As awesome as Megumin is, I do think that this show exposed her too much. To use a sports analogy, it was like putting your second string player in the starting lineup.
edit: at least on desktop, kbin squishes that gif into an ugly mess, but the full resolution is there if you click on it
Man, Joe Rogan had his chance to be a unifying voice for America 3.5-4 years ago, but that fuck decided to take $$$ instead and now spouts non-stop garbage nonsense like this.
If you really like Megumin, Yunyun, and Chomusuke
If you are OK with lower event pace, SoL style of show
No:
If you liked Konosuba because of Kazuma/Aqua/Darkness
If you expect to see a higher event pace with tighter episodic scripts
If you expect to see a straight comedy with lots of jokes
A few weeks ago my neighbor (a nice older woman in her 60s) asked me to fix her TV. I walked into her living room and pushed the power button on the remote.

As a huge Kill la Kill fan, I really, really, really wanted to like Symphogear, especially since I have seen so many recommendations along the lines of "If you liked KLK, you will love Symphogear!"
And after watching the excellent 1st episode of season 1, my expectations were sky high and I couldn't wait to see what they had waiting for us next. Sadly, I felt like the overall season plot had serious issues, the show could not consistently find a way to harness its chaotic/absurd energy, the animation got derpy really quickly after around the 3rd episode, and the ending (the final final scene in the last episode) did not land for me.
Nonetheless, I still very much appreciated the setting, the music and the overall creative idea for it. If it starts to come together in the later seasons, maybe I will pick it back up. I didn't hate it, I just had really high expectations for it and it didn't quite get there for me.
I've only seen the first few episodes of GuP, and that was years ago, I barely remember anything about it except for the cafe the girls go to in episode 1 that has the tank desserts roll out on a conveyor belt, lol.
86 I watched right after it finished airing, so I was able to binge it all in one go. I thought the first part was fine, but I almost dropped it since it didn't seem like it was worth the hype. However, I thought part two was one of the best cours I've seen in years. It was so good I watched the whole thing again right after finishing it.
Every time I see a comment, a post - or in this case, a piece of artwork - sounding the opinion of "wtf is Reddit doing, they are shooting themselves in the foot" I feel like I have to point out that that isn't what is happening at all.
Reddit knows exactly what they are doing: They are saying "thanks for nothing, if you aren't $$$ to us, then get the fuck out."
They are very, very, purposefully showing a large portion of their user base the door. They aren't focusing on making Reddit "better", they are getting rid of the undesirable part of the population that won't mindlessly consume their increasingly aggressive moves to monetize and weaponize their platform, whether it is in the form of advertising, or corporate or political propaganda. Destroying 3P apps and upsetting the older demographic of Redditors isn't a blunder, it's a calculated move on their part in order to create some sort of dystopian shitscape forum where /u/Independent_Ad_6969 can post about how great person/movie/product/company is and get thousands of people to agree without a thought.
I want to say that this is a bit too much towards conspiracy-theory territory to be accurate. And it may be.
Yeah, maybe using "weaponize" in the original post is too strong a word. I'm not trying to spread any sort of conspiracy bullshit. The real point I'm trying to make is what you said here:
the most likely explanation is normal corporate money-hunger
I just finished a full re-watch of the entire series last night. In my mind, even Endless Eight controversy aside, the whole thing is a 10/10.
I only discovered Haruhi a year ago and it's just been living in my head rent-free the whole time: characters, artwork, soundtrack, the voice performances for Japanese AND English, God Knows, Hare Hare Yukai, Bouken Desho Desho, and pretty much everything else about it.
Spez is and always has been a twat. Guy was MIA during Reddit's best years, then gets dug up out of his mom's basement a few years ago by Reddit's corporate ownership to provide a figurehead/punching bag while they shittified their site.
Dude literally doesn't give a shit about the Reddit of old, he cares about himself. Anyone believing that Spez and Reddit care about improving the site are just fooling themselves. Killing off 3P apps while being so brazen about the whole thing - it's clear they just wanted to get rid of an entire portion of the user base they decided was unprofitable.
I read this article the day it was posted. Tonight I managed to sit down and watch Aku no Hana in its entirety.
Aku no Hana quick description: Resident Best Girl Candidate Sawa Nakamura, self-proclaimed deviant, loner and sociopath, binds our milquetoast MC, Takao Kasuga, into a contract where they both explore the deviant sides of their souls together via acts of social rebellion. Eerie rotoscoping, soundtrack, concept, sense of looming doom, and secondhand cringe rivaling and surpassing NHK ni Youkoso at times made this a memorable and unique anime.
I was captivated by it at first but by the end I felt that it fizzled into nothingness. This anime also didn't do itself any favors by teasing a season 2 during the final episode, because 10 years later, we can all see that it ended up as a financial failure, selling something like <300 BDs in Japan.
It's absolutely worth watching if you are interested in unique anime and find value in that sort of thing, even if you aren't entertained on the surface by it, which is how I felt - I appreciated watching it, though I got little personal enjoyment from it.
