Analogies are tools to assist understanding, and having opposition debate the analogies themselves instead of the actual points they're used to make is a sign of a weak rebuttal.

So let's ignore all the haggling over the analogy and bring it back to the broader point: People should not be in jobs which their personal beliefs prevent doing significant or important aspects of. And equality between genders is objectively an important aspect of health care. These "professionals" should not be in the health care field at all, save perhaps male-focused care fields like prostate or testicular health.

I don't understand why this is even allowed. If someone had a religious opposition to consuming or enabling the consumption (cooking, serving, etc) of certain foods -- shellfish, pork, sweets during lent, meat in general, whatever -- that person could not reasonably expect to get a job in a restaurant where that food is regularly served. Like, if a waiter showed up for work at a steakhouse one day and refused to touch any plate with meat on it on religious grounds, no one would be on that waiter's side when there are vegan restaurants that waiter could have applied to instead.

Doctors are held to a different standard because... the mental gymnastics say it's totally fine when it's a woman being denied service I guess?

If these healthcare "professionals" only want to treat men like they deserve humane care, they should be in a field more suited to their preferences.

Failing that, yes, I agree with your comment entirely.

The context that it's a copay cap only is really important, and I see why it was vetoed - for not going far enough while a viable interim solution is already in place that gives the state breathing room to wait for a more complete solution.

I've been seeing a lot of misleading as hell headlines about this guy's vetoes lately. There was another one yesterday about him vetoing a bill that would have banned caste discrimination, but that one was because CA's anti-discrimination laws already covered discrimination based on ancestry.

No way. Why should OP change? He's not the one who sucks.

Idk man, I was just continuing the chain of references.

It's really not my problem that you viewed me pointing out 53 < 60 as "unloading."

And "normalizing" having a serious disorder is dangerous. This is not behavior that should be applauded. It dilutes the experience of those who do have it and saps the available resources. Again, not "unloading," just facts that can be verified with any professional in the field. None of this is coming from emotion.

Going to therapy is good. Absolutely, yes, 90% should go. At no point did I shame therapy, I just pointed out the numbers don't line up and it proves there is definitely self-diagnosis going on.

Yeah, doing that does absolutely nothing. Your image viewer still reads it as the webp it is, and it knows to do so seamlessly because it's reading the file header (the first few bytes of the file) instead of the file extension.

For an analogy, you're basically just putting a wig on it and pretending it's your girlfriend from the next school over when everyone in the room knows it's your skeezy neighbor and is just humoring you.

harmonea,
harmonea avatar

if there’s like a step I can take to avoid it being a webp

Formats are chosen by the uploaders and hosts, not the end user.

For easy conversion of images from the web, I recommend the FF addon Save webP as PNG or JPEG. Anytime you open an image in its own tab, it pops up with a menu that gives you a quick button to choose the format you'd like to save it in.

Come on now, you know the left panels would have said something about tax breaks for "job creators." You only wish they fumbled on their absurd message.

Mhm, that's one of the "very recent additions" I meant. The other being Memoria, but that's a sidequest.

Bit of a sensationalized headline, then. They're almost there, but not "entirely."

harmonea,
harmonea avatar

Article only mentions dungeons. Did they add it for story trials too? As far as I know that's only available for early 4-player trials and a couple of very recent additions. The Chrysalis, Steps of Faith, etc can still wipe a group of human players easily if their mechanics are ignored.

Do you not know that actual news clips from actual news outfits get posted on youtube sometimes

The best time to learn emergency lifesaving procedures is before you need them, but the second best time is when you need them. Being old fashioned about this could cost a life.

If you have a quicker reference people should bookmark for such cases, the kind thing would be to share it rather than judge. Else, panicking people will inevitably go where they know they can usually get fast instruction about any other topic.

You'll be okay. We all have our pet peeves, and none of us can expect the world to abide by them.

Being horny is harmless and fun. There would be a lot more chill in the world if people would stop being so wound up about it.

Oh that does seem like an interesting twist for Subject: Love!

Emberfate looks like a really interesting concept; I love the idea of an otome+management sim blend, and in a setting I find so familiar too as someone who's been playing MMOs for almost 20 years now. The LI count is a bit low for the super broad audience they seem to be targeting, so I will leave it off the backlog, but I see they're adding a fourth and will keep a distant watch on it in case they continue adding more (or do a future game with more).

Thank you for the recs!

harmonea,

Anything promising among those new additions to the backlog? I'm also more motivated to play otome from this community.

I'm excited for the whole setting in the card stories, because I like AUs. It's fun to see how an existing character molds and changes with a new setting. Even though these stories aren't canon to the game's main timeline, they can still show you a lot about the characters or explore facets that can't work in the main story

Vyn's card story looks great, so that's what I'm looking forward to most, and I'll definitely end up buying his outfit. Love the Moritarty vibes. Not sure if I'll roll for others' cards.

I heard the temporary event gameplay (which takes place in the modern canon timeline on a similarly Victorianish-themed rail tour) didn't go over great in the CN release, but I'm still here for it. MC's chibi in the RPG preview near the end of the trailer looks adorable, and it seems like there will be some rare and fun side characters in play.

Tears of Themis announced an event that I've been looking forward to all year. It doesn't start til next week, but the trailer hype was a nice boost this week since I'm not super into the other events currently on. It's a Victorian England-ish themed AU. The guys all look delicious in this era's styles.

Also, reminder that October is a good month for spicy fan content due to inktober and kinktober events, so check in to see what's new with your favorite artists, writers, and content tags.

But do we really want to maintain the current status quo?

I think if you read my comment again, you'd find I acknowledge things need to change, I just think your proposed solution is bad.

I can imagine ways to accomplish these goals more gradually, with less complete and utter destruction, but I don't think someone who proposed something so extreme from the word go really wants to discuss the moderate stance, so I'll leave it with you as a thought exercise.

You're talking about changes that will take a generation or more to settle. While these things are in flux, professors will lose their jobs, research grants and budgets will be gutted, and educational assets will be liquidized (imagine museums being sold off to private collections - this is incredibly damaging to the collective knowledge base). Meanwhile, the generations that wait for prices to come down will be left having to educate themselves on the internet, which not everyone has the motivational drive to do or the ability to spot which sources are providing reliable, accurate material they can learn from.

I get that something's gotta give, but banning loans altogether ain't it unless your entire goal is to turn Gen A's moniker into Ass-Backwards.

You snark, but unironically yes? Obviously?

If you think the professors that will be left will be the highest quality instead of the longest tenured, you're being willfully ignorant. And that loss will ripple down through every generation those passionate and skilled educators would have taught. Plus, "the olds" or whatever have families (which include young people) that would be suffering even more directly to boot.

E: I see we're doing the whole "disregard the overall point and only snark about the lowest hanging fruit you can intentionally take out of context" thing. Into the void with you, redditor.

People are clamoring around you in a huge chorus of it's fine just roll with it but frankly, I think your point of view is totally valid. While Larian did a great job making every path a valid way to the ending, you can really only ever lock yourself out of content with your choices.

Go too far down one of two branching paths? Hope you can pass a big fat skill check or two, or that one companion will bail. Hope you didn't like that character or want to see more of that content. (Oh, and if you do pass the skill checks, 10 minutes later the companion is like "ugh no it's fine you were right, forget I ever wanted to go that way even though I've been obsessed with it for the last 20 hours" in the name of railroading the character back in line.)

Get interested in the wrong quest too early? Hope you didn't want to finish the main side objective in that one area. No no, even though all the characters are still present, you don't get to finish it. Because we said so. Shoo along to the next place. Go. Get.

And here's hoping you don't get curious about the "evil" path - you lose multiple companions and a whole-ass cast of side characters that are meant to follow you through the game and gain one (1) bit of interesting new content to replace them. Is it still interesting? Absolutely, but it's a consolation prize compared to how much you lose.

It took me 3 playthroughs or so before I finally felt like I was on a save where I was having a good 80%+ of the intended experience. And yeah, you can replay it for what you missed, but not everyone has time for that, especially in a game this immense. I know I've started it up to make my fourth character about half a dozen times and Alt-F4ed during character creation as soon as I think about going through the parts I've thoroughly combed already.

BG3 is my GOTY by a long shot, but people should have more sympathy for this outlook. There are definitely right paths and wrong paths, and while they all lead to the end, the wrong paths have a lot less to look at and a healthy amount of rubbing your face in the fact that you did stuff in the wrong order ("Perhaps you could have...." ok thanks, narrator).

I wasn't advocating for any posts to get removed, just sassing this chump for acting like anyone who can see what it really is is an idiot ("are you so concrete..." etc)
