Right?! I was a teen at the time in an area where people were really into this guy. This and B.I.G. were huge events around then. It's a shock seeing it suddenly dredged up again, let alone in this way.

I initially had concerns about how they were going to prove anything after so long, but after reading the article, it sounds like the guy has basically confessed dozens of times over in great detail and would have to fall back on the "haha I was kidding" defense to avoid consequences.

The ambitious mod to recreate a 23-year-old vampire RPG in Skyrim shows off its take on medieval Prague (www.pcgamer.com)

Vampire: The Masquerade Redemption - Reawakened, the mod project to rebuild the first VtM videogame in Skyrim, has shown off new gameplay of its Prague early game. The original game, which follows the story of a crusader knight from the Middle Ages all the way to the modern day, is one of those hyper-ambitious, turn of the...

Skyrim is more game engine than game with the scope of some of its mods.

Shoutout to that one mod that actually did grow up and release as an independent game.

I haven't had the new vaccine yet, but after evading the old strain and catching the new one before vaccines were available, I can say... the original Moderna vaccine kicked my ass about equally as hard as covid's first day did.

(The cough is by far the worst part, but for me that didn't start until later, so the covid fever day felt completely identical to the post-vaccine day.)

Only bothered clicking through this because it was "found" and wtf? People knew about the Blood of Lathander super early (both wikis I know of had pages on it weeks before the Aug 31 stream this statement came from), and Astarion's freakout if you blow him up in there is one of his most popular clips. And it's definitely not two hours of gameplay unless you include all the creche business too (unless some of those fights up top are super hard on higher difficulties I guess, but if you're blowing up Astarion you probably skipped them anyway). Surely this can't be it lol

Scooter is OP's cat. The reference is just in the way the battle text is worded (every pokemon "faints" when KOed). See also: "it's super effective!"

I've actually never played Pokemon either, but it's the kind of pop culture you just osmose anyway if you absorb what's being said around you.

harmonea,

It's a pokemon reference, fainted was correct.

Spoiler markup unfortunately doesn't appear to be working as intended for me. Might have to do with a userscript I installed for more options, but I was also concerned about friends outside kbin as well. Thanks though!

I agree that otome is generally niche enough to not catch too much flak, but I sure have seen some takes about the more popular ones. (Maybe I'm just bitter deep down that my favorites get bullied when "worse" stuff is out there; if people are going to violate "don't like, don't read" can't they at least prioritize?)

Glad the review was of interest to someone or another :)

I hardly think I need to give up my double standard about being uncomfortable with X character flaw but not Y character flaw when it comes to my subjective enjoyment.

I never implied this, and with respect, I've been growing increasingly uncomfortable with the pushback into new contexts here for a few comments now. The double standard I speak of is with regard to unrealistic professions and how people's personal relationship with psychology makes them think it's okay to pick on one LI's approach to his job without taking the time to understand none of the professions are making any attempt at realism. If that closeness to home is the dealbreaker for that LI for someone, that's fine, but it doesn't make him somehow objectively the worst as people like to portray.

I never said people can't have opinions or they have to tolerate all character flaws equally. I'm just tired of purity police with two-year-old surface level takes still feeling the need to bring up the same points as always about the game's whipping boy, and never with an eye toward why people still enjoy it, how it works in the character's favor, or how it compares to others' flaws.

Maybe it’s because I’m running on not enough hours of sleep, but I’m not entirely sure I understand what you mean by this part:

I was talking about Butterfly's Poison; Blood Chains here. If it had the reach of other larger otome, there wouldn't be one single most hated character because everyone has a hard-to-forgive flaw.

harmonea,
harmonea avatar

My top LI of all time is Vyn from Tears of Themis, and I constantly see the Internet shaming him because his career is portrayed poorly (psychology is treated very differently in the east where the game is written to begin with, and it's clear no one on the writing team is in the field). But this is in a game with a Rembrandt-tier artist who also runs one of the biggest companies in the world at age 21, a master of all trades detective hacker spy Bond-gadget-maker biologist supersoldier, and an elite lawyer whose area of specialization is literally every field of law and whose win rate is 99.9%. But no one picks on their professions being unrealistic; instead we have to dissect whether the psychiatrist's degrees are legitimate and point out all the times he violated HIPAA (a law that doesn't exist where the game is written) and go tsk tsk, shame, toxic at his bedside manner when the current story's antagonist happens to be a patient.

And that's not even touching personality flaws. Don't get me started on the "red flag" commentary that ignores all the others' flaws. Characters need to have flaws to be believable, but for some characters this is unforgivable.

For other otome I understand a bit more given my usual type (anyone with a comfy cage or basement lol) but I still tend to always be drawn to the ones people say are disturbing and you must need therapy if you like. Maannn it's fiction, it's not hurting anybody. 😩

harmonea,
harmonea avatar

Yes, I do understand there are reasons (like "closer to home") that people feel it's okay to apply a double standard, and I still feel that doesn't actually justify it. And while people are free to discuss characters' flaws, it's utterly exhausting when it's always one character's flaws, and almost never from a character analysis point of view where a poster takes a moment to understand why those flaws are there and what kind of character arc it gives us the chance to see.

Anyway, roaming off topic. I think at least with the reviewed otome, there's some high quality "everybody sucks here" that would mostly prevent a single LI from being the punching bag, were it ever to reach the same audience. That's unique!

have there been any writings, surveys, or studies

If this is your core question, I suggest putting it somewhere up top; people will get halfway through your post, find something they want to respond to, and just respond without realizing you're not looking for anecdata.

But no, there's nothing like that as far as I know. And I feel this sort of thing would get a lot of play from ex-redditors, so I agree with the other guy that recent shifts would have been too recent to have been analyzed.

(As far as anecdata goes, I've always found subs that focused on a location instead of a topic had a more prominent conservative presence, as location subs bring out a lot more fierce rhetoric as people feel they're defending their homes from perceived threats.)

Still Tears of Themis. Vyn's birthday just happened. The event was adorable and much more suggestive than I expected now that we're in year 3 and engaged.

Genshin's update this week came with a nice new husbando to gacha for, so even though that's not a romance game, I still appreciate it.

Perpetually on the to-do list: Finish Collar x Malice fandisk

Fight Club. Really good, but just hasn't ever had the same impact on repeat watches.

With a lot of other "plot twist" movies, you can at least enjoy repeat viewings because you see and enjoy all the signs, and maybe even pick up new ones. But Fight Club, despite being excellent, doesn't really execute the repeat view appeal very well at all imo.

harmonea,
harmonea avatar

Usually yeah, at least twice, but with Fight Club you can't even get that since the two central characters were so... divided.

At best you get to re-contextualize the reactions of the characters around them, but that alone was never enough for me, so that's why this is my pick.

While I haven't read up in detail on it, from what I've osmosed from headlines and blurbs, I believe the Neuralink program is aimed at healing specific issues such as blindness? He probably wouldn't qualify even if he wanted to.

(Of course, he doesn't want to, because he knows perfectly well he's selling a dangerous lie, but we can't really get after him based on "why isn't he volunteering" I think.)

Guessing you didn't see the recent news about Epic doing a big layoff and shedding properties recently?

Yeah, I was just thinking while typing that I've got a super soft beanie I'm going to break out before winter sets in.

I've never seen one of those hats used IRL, but I get it.

If my room gets really cold, I can burrow in blankets, but since I'm not one of those weirdos who can sleep with a covered nose/mouth, my head has to stay stuck out and will still be cold.

I usually find a clean sweatshirt to hide the top of my head under or, in desperate times, origami my blankets up from behind my shoulders to tuck it in.

I doubt your ability to tell when someone is a sockpuppet, for one, given you seem to think I'm one of them. Which calls into question your assertion that this is a pattern of one rich guy who hates you and keeps ban evading and making all the alts just to mess with you.

As this was just morning drama popcorn though, you can skip the answers; these actions have spoken louder than any words you could respond with.

harmonea,
harmonea avatar

It's the mindset of someone who just woke up and was browsing sleepy as hell from bed and is already tired of hearing about this after finding it in like 8 communities and in several comment sections of unrelated posts. If you want to suspect my intent, go for it, nothing I say could stop you.

harmonea,
harmonea avatar

There it is! Lol

Yes I'm sure your bully carefully curated the persona of an MMO player and otome fan and the other projects she worked on for years under the same name just waiting for this moment. The long-ass review for a game I posted this weekend which is verifiably not plagiarized nor bland enough to be from an AI is totally just me feigning legitimacy so I can astroturf. The cat photos which can't be found through reverse image search outside posts from this account are totally deepfakes to farm karma so my astroturfing would look more legitimate.

This won't change your mind, but it needs to be said anyway: People can disagree with you without being alts, bots, sockpuppets, or in any other way "in on it." Your inability to see this makes me doubt your entire account of these events.

Why do you feel this is news that needs to be spread?

Like, I feel for you if all this is true, but we here already left reddit and you're already pressuring the admins and claiming to involve law enforcement and reporters. There is literally nothing the rest of us could do to contribute to this even if we were inclined.

This was just morning drama popcorn. It doesn't need to go anywhere and especially doesn't want crossposting to large communities where it was off topic, nor does it warrant the spam in unrelated comment sections.

And if that opinion happens to make me a sock puppet, well....

Looks back over verifiable same-name online persona in niche interests for years and shrugs

Okay then.

none of the self cleaning ones really work properly, do they?

Uh, yes they do?

Or do you neglect your appliances as much as you neglect your animals? They do still require some human intervention to empty their waste, so you still can't ignore them even if you're dealing with it less.

You accepted this responsibility when you took in a cat. I hate it too, no one likes playing in poop. You aren't special or alone in this. We all find a way to suck it up and get it done because we love our pets, and if you can't, you aren't fit to be a pet owner.
