Hi there, the Artemis private beta rollout has just started! @hariette will be emailing 50 signup sheet users, while @lilkev will be adding 50 users from Artemis Discord. The order will be based on the submissions to the private beta signup form, as well as general activity within the Artemis community....
It is battle tested, standardized, widely used, have open source servers and apps, end-to-end encryption (OMEMO), self-hostable and are low on ressources and federated / decentralized....
So hopefully I'm doing this right! :) (I'm still new to some of this so haven't figured out things yet! I did ask this via Mastodon also, but wanted to add more detail to my answer!)...
I found out about it because of a hacker news comment discussing the Reddit drama. I'm pretty upset that I didn't discover it on Reddit. I assume any mention of Lemmy was marked as spam or was I just not browsing the right communities?
The dev, @hariette, also has a Mastodon profile where she posts updates https://tech.lgbt/@hariette. There is also a link to the apps discord server in her bio.
Also, it's relevant to a lot of the userbase. Like, this is relevant to something that just personally impacted the majority of the userbase here -- it's gonna probably be of interest.
I do agree with the idea that it's good to get more content up, though. Go find a couple interesting things a day and submit them. I have!
There are also some people at the BotIt magazine on kbin.social working on setting up a bot to mirror Reddit subreddit submissions to kbin magazines, which might help ease disruption for some subreddits.
Good morning! :) Today I want to focus mainly on reviewing the pull requests you've submitted. There are many great things there that will help improve the kbin experience. That's amazing, thank you! I'm also in the final stages of sorting out the infrastructure-related formalities. Soon, the situation with the website's...
SOOOOOO after finally setting up my kbin dev environment I went ahead and wrote some code to add support for EXACTLY this on the official kbin codebase!
Now just need @ernest 's approval and once it's merged you'll be able to do this on kbin without any modifications!!!
edit: clicking on a comment now also hides its content (other than the username), making it even more clear which threads are collapsed! (similar to apollo) – updated the demo gif
The branding for kbin is perfect for capturing the reddit migrators. The biggest friction point for the Fediverse is choosing an instance. If I want to join Lemmy, googling Lemmy takes me to a landing page with no join button, telling me to go to these other sites. Some of these sites even actively discourage signups, creating...
I noticed, but it's not me... not yet. The traffic simply dropped to an acceptable level. I'm working on maintaining this state permanently, and I think I'm on the right track. I want to do it really well and make use of the new possibilities we have now. In the meantime, I'm organizing the git/issues and will be on Matrix where we resolve certain technical matters. But I'll be back here soon and will tell you everything :)
I really want to help improve /kbin. I am a experienced TypeScript / React dev and a hobby PHP programmer. How do I contribute to the project. Of course there is the git repo, but there is no info in the repo (like a contribute.md) like there is in many other repos.

Is there any way to collapse comments and their children in the interface? Seems like a fairly basic feature but I can't find it.
