/kbin server update - or how the server didn't blow up

Currently, on the main instance, people have created 40191 accounts (+214 marked as deleted). I don't know how many are active because I don't monitor it, but once again, I greet all of you here :) In recent days, the traffic on the website has been overwhelming. It's definitely too much for the basic docker-compose setup,...

Nope, we are at 35k+

Nice work! I can't imagine what would happen if a hobby project of mine is suddenly used by 35k users, it would be insanely stressful, keep it up, we are loving it here.

📢Entire mod team on r/mildlyinteresting (and more subs) removed and locked out of their accounts after changing their rules upon community's request. (They're also switching subs BACK to SFW)

EDIT: GO DM MODS OF YOUR FAVORITE SUBREDDITS AND POLITELY ASK ABOUT MIGRATION!: something as simple as "Hey, I love this community but I no longer use reddit, will you guys be making a community on Kbin or other alternatives? Let me know please, thanks." will work!! We need more voices encouraging migration!...

Are those butter flavored?

Wow, I never thought I'd see the day where Reddit would remove entire mod teams.
I guess they were right when they said:

The r/WatchRedditDie moderator team regrets to inform our community that we have, in fact, watched Reddit die...

Reddit died and we watched it.

All mods of /r/self and /r/shittylifeprotips were removed and suspended for 7 days without any warning first.

We toggled to 18+ and sort of let nature take its course by only enforcing TOS. I say "we" but in reality I was the only active mod on either sub, so I do feel bad for getting awkwardtheturtle banned by association (lol). After the fact got the "It’s not ok to show people NSFW content when they don’t want to see it....

This looks amazing! I believe kbin will look really good in the near future

Same tbh

The bot you are talking about is archiving many posts from reddit, I have one running too, but mine is intended for mods that need to mirror content from their subreddit (only external links, like news) to a magazine or community.
Here's the link if someone needs it: https://github.com/daniel-lxs/BotIt

Assuming you are on a lemmy instance you link them like !communityname@instance.domain

lixus98,

Seems to be a bug with Lemmy, if you click the sub button multiple times it should eventually subscribe

lixus98,

theoretically

I got scared until you said this, ofc any question is fine as long as it is hypothetical.

lixus98,

You are participating on a kbin thread right now, kbin is basically another lemmy but because they speak the same language we can communicate.

lixus98,
lixus98 avatar

Only if you are in the Microblog tab, since it treats every post as something more akin to a tweet. However it shouldn't show up on the Threads tab.
Also, you can't collapse comments at the moment, however the feature is being developed.

Welcome, don't be scared of asking something!

I'm just glad to be witnessing this from this cozy place, glad to be with you guys...

I have a crosspost bot, I'm mainly testing it and it's purpose is to use reddit as link agregator to help small communities get some content going.
It only posts external links, never OC nor a link to reddit.

Also in my case the bot will get one post no older than 5 hours every hour, to prevent flooding with posts.

Why do some Lemmy community not show up in magazine search (others on same instance do)?

Yesterday I learned about https://lemmy.ca/c/ontario_community_directory (edit: I got a wrong link somewhere -- this one should have been https://lemmy.ca/c/ontario_index) and my local city sub of https://lemmy.ca/c/waterloo. I can't find them in magazine search (eg, https://kbin.social/magazines?q=waterloo). They're not brand...

I personally saw someone working on fixing the links so you can just click on them, hopefully we get some form of autosearch when the magazine is not federated

lixus98,
lixus98 avatar

I migh be able to help with these types of links, look for the kbin link extension, it's available for Firefox and chrome.
It's an extension I made to help with this situation.

@ernest I think you might be interested in this: https://kbin.social/m/geddit@geddit.social/t/64769/Call-to-Lemmy-instance-admins
Something is going on on these instances and we might experience massive spam coming from them.

This is what I fear the most tbh

Meta's incursion in the fediverse might cause very bad effects, there's nothing preventing them from spitting ads from their new platform to all other platforms compatible with it.
I really hope that if we come to that, admins will defederate immediately.

lixus98,
lixus98 avatar

I use both, I like kbin feed much more, lemmy takes a long time to update the feed (although a fix might be very close) other than that, I like the access to microblog platforms.

That cloudflare problem was solved :)

Call it Lemmunity even tho that sounds like immunity
