RE: Is Ernest still here?

I check in here quite often, but for now, I'm just focusing on clearing spam and keeping the instance alive. In January, I was working on the AP module, and there has been significant progress in the work, which hasn't been publicly published yet. Unfortunately, at the beginning of the year, I developed a skin condition that...

I hope Ernest gets well soon and can pass through all of these stuff, but I must add one point to this:

And finally, I really suggest getting some more admins for the instance.

And, as important as this, letting more people help with Kbin development.

It's impossible to maintain the code and develop new features, while dealing with all his personal life problems (which of course are a priority) and maintaining the instance all at once and almost alone.

Why not getting some help? I know that Ernest already said he has a problem trusting people, but come on, it's visible that this approach is not working and it’s not benefiting anyone.

So you can manually put your laundry inside it, go to your bed and tell the machine to wash it like you didn't had to get up to put your laundry inside it.

Of course, that's a good reminder! But according to my dog's vet, it shouldn't be a problem if done cautious, not frequently, not going deep and with a gauze around your finger. She do it sometimes including to see if there's anything causing the itch by the color left on the gauze.

EDIT: I'm not a vet, so if I'm wrong, someone please correct me! Just saying this according to what my dog's vet said.

Threads will allow you to follow Mastodon users by year-end, according to Meta meeting details | TechCrunch (techcrunch.com)

Threads’ roadmap for integrations with the fediverse, aka the network of decentralized apps that includes Twitter/X rival Mastodon and others, has been revealed. A new blog post by Tom Coates, the co-founder of an older decentralized app called Planetary, details the events of a December meeting at Meta’s offices where the...

Is there any way for me to know if a Kbin instance also blocked Threads?

mizzyc,
mizzyc avatar

Well, if you're right, Kbin looks to not have defederated Threads

mizzyc,

Oh, I tried to say that I can see and even follow this Threads account, so probably Kbin is still federated! Sorry if it wasn't clear

avatars and usernames should be bigger so it's easier to grow a sense of community

I think the apps and the web ui should increase the size of the users avatars and make the username a bit bigger so it’s easier for people to start recognizing eachother and grow a sense of community. Back in the forum days people would remember eachother’s usernames/avatars for their contributions and it would be easier to...

Since you mentioned "forum days", I'm still wondering when did we decided we should get rid of those blinking gifs with our usernames we used as a signature for every post! I hate them, but I also miss them...

I had the same thoughts when my dentist suggested it, but fortunately nowadays we have more choices for doing it.

I don't know where you live and how much you can expend in it, but I've decided to use these removable invisible aligners (like Invisalign) and had no regrets. They're faster to do their job, more trustable to get the alignment you need and, well, they're not too visible as regular braces.

As other people said, correcting your teeth is something you will enjoy for the rest of your life. So, if you can afford invisible aligners and can follow their instructions (like using them for 20h per day, regularly brushing your teeth etc), I totally recommend going this way.

Besides what method you'll choose, remember that everyone of them is temporary and you'll be really happy with the results in the near future. I get the concern about what other people will think, but you should remember you're doing something for you and to feel happier with yourself! :)

Kind of confused by wanting handwriting recognition while not using a pen? Are you writing with your finger?

Hahahaha you have a good point and I'm sorry I didn't explained that before! For now, yes, I'm writing with my finger!

I'm taking a look to see if I'll get used to taking notes and planning my day with my tablet before expending money in a pen that I'd only use for this.

Also, thanks for the recommendation! I tried Good Notes but I think the handwriting recognition is a paid feature. I will take a look if there's a trial!

That's exactly my point, specially because when I started making my daily planner for work it helped a lot with my ADHD, so the point is to find something to help even more! Thank you very much!

Mbin is a fork of kbin: a decentralized content aggregator running on the Fediverse network (lemmy.ml)

Mbin is a decentralized content aggregator, voting, discussion and microblogging platform running on the fediverse network. It can communicate with many other ActivityPub services, including Kbin, Mastodon, Lemmy, Pleroma, Peertube. It is an open source alternative to other link aggregator services like Reddit. The initiative...

Honest question: what's the reason to make a fork instead of contributing do kbin itself?

mizzyc,
mizzyc avatar

That makes sense!

For my basic knowledge working side by side with a lot of devs, I totally agree with the way Ernest thinks. It's essential for a product that's growing up to have a solid core that will not need to be rewrote in the near future.

But also, as an user, I keep wishing we could see more features, like the API for mobile apps.

I mean, besides what Ernest and Melroy thinks that's the right way, there's also what the users need, what the users want and what the project needs to escalate (new features vs core rewriting). And probably there's not a right answer for that.

mizzyc,
mizzyc avatar

Oh, thanks for showing the other side! Like always, things are not just black and white.
I have never heard about Melroy before, but I was scared by the last comment. It's nice to hear that there are nice people working on this branch :)

Firefox for Android context menu editing (lemmy.world)

Recently Amazon, I suppose their app, added a search item to my context menu, which is quite a nuisance. Other apps have as well, such as DeepL and Wikipedia, but I believe those have a valid use case without too much of a commercial interest. Is there a way to remove items from the context menu without removing the related app?

mizzyc,

Thanks for explaining!
Now I know it's almost like they're asking for me to uninstall their app!

Launch the API on the main instance

RTR#22 Further improvements interspersed with code refactoring

Today, I fixed some visual shortcomings. It is now possible to change images during post editing. The rules of the magazine have been included in the description on Fediverse to avoid misunderstandings with Lemmy users. Some changes are already on the instance, and the rest will be pushed by morning....

Are there any plans for the feed to always show new posts that you haven't seen yet, just like the reddit feed?

I mean, every time I open the "hot" section, for example, I see the same posts that are trending, even when I've already seen them before. It'd be nice to be able to see only content I didn't saw yet, so people will be always receiving new content and raising their interest and engagement :)

EDIT: I'm not complaining about the experience, just making a suggestion and I wanna thank you (as always) for your awesome work with /kbin! It's for sure my favorite social network!

/kbin RTR#7 Summary of the week, preview of the kbin.social update

It's been almost a week since I started describing my work in the devlog. I'm okay with the progress and the pace I've set for myself. But what matters most to me is that developing the project has once again brought me immense joy and satisfaction. The tasks I've completed so far will allow for a more organized life on the...

Despite of what some people said in other posts, I think that the devlog is really great to give us some visibility of what is being done behind the scene and, most of all, to be clear that /kbin development is not abandoned!

I'm really glad that you could overcome the challenges that life surprised you with, and that you're finding joy developing /kbin. Can't wait to see everything you've done and planning to do on the future!

As always, congrats and thanks for the great work @ernest!
