It's fashionable to say that networking sucks apparently. Personally, networking has made it possible for me to start a business, help it grow and turn it into a success. Networking has put food on the table, it keeps a roof over my head and it's given me a life I didn't think I had a shot at. When I hear people say it doesn't work it always makes me wonder if maybe networking isn't the problem.

There are networking rules I live by though. No high pressure, power handshake, traffic light system, dog eat dog, alpha male BS. It's about really getting to know a group of people and deciding if you like em and if you're going to help em. It's about being real, being genuinely helpful and open to suggestions. A good networking group will let you know your iceberg towing business is probably not going to work out that well. A great group will notice how quickly you were able to put together a team of tugboats, refrigerated trucks and distributors and suggest that actually you might want to start a supply chain management business instead.

But networking is so much more than just getting leads too. It's a life university course for the price of breakfast. About 30 people in the same boat as you who want your help and have lots of help and advice to give you. Starting a business is lonely and confusing. A good networking group helps a lot with that.

Step 1 - Putin doesn't like a thing.
Step 2 - Putin says that if you do the thing you'll get nuked.
Step 3 - Putin's little cyber puppets flood social media with posts "concerned" about the risks of him launching the mighty nukes. Oh noes!
Step 4 - Putin hopes you believe him.
Step 5 - Nobody believes him.

...some times passes...

aaand we're back to Step 1...

Hello, here's all the things I'd like to argue about today.

Are there any add ons for Kbin or any existing features within it that would let me filter out posts based on selected keywords? So if I didn't ever want to read any posts that mentioned bitcoin or covid for example, does anyone know of a way to achieve that on kbin? Sort of how RES could do that on reddit.

Hey there chief, got any sources for your comment? Like any kind of peer reviewed references to the links between oxytocin and loneliness, romantic relationships and orgasm? Would be interesting to read.

Thanks, that was actually really interesting and I learnt stuff I didn't know beforehand. The thing is your comment seemed to trigger quite a few people (me included) because it seemed insensitive. Thankfully you later commented that "For some people (like all the ones in the article) they want it fixed. Others are perfectly happy the way they are, and both are fine and none of anyone else’s business" so you obviously get it. It's funny how easy it is for people to misunderstand each other in forums like this. This has been a learning experience for me.

You forget a thousand voice chatbots every day, how about you make sure this is one of them...

I like to shower in as dark a possible a bathroom. I find it enhances the creativity effect by a huge amount. Also the slight risk of an accidental, life altering fall from not being able to see keeps it spicy!

I recently re-installed The Crew 2 because I wanted to start a new character and start the story again from scratch. Unfortunately I'd forgotten that YOU CAN'T START AGAIN (Jackie Chan Confused Meme). Because of these ridiculous shenanigans of theirs your progress is inextricably tied to your online account. They have literally built a system that limits replayability. Bravo.

I think they've lost about the amount of troops that Napoleon lost in Russia funnily enough.

There's something he said in that interview that felt like a hint about why he's behaving like he doesn't give a damn anymore.

"For a while there I was like really getting demotivated and losing sleep over the sort of the threat of AI danger and then I finally sort of became fatalistic about it and said well even if I knew annihilation was certain would I choose to be alive at that time or not and I said I probably would have choose to be alive at that time because it's the most interesting thing. Even if there was nothing I could do about it. So then, you know, then basically sort of a fatalistic resignation help me sleep at night because I was having trouble sleeping at night because of AI danger."

A billionaire who believes that we're all probably doomed within the next decade and has accepted it so he can sleep at night.

Maybe explains a lot about his behaviour? If you know this all ends in the next few years, why not just try crazy shit.

Grey and black and speedy too
They're the awesome pew pew crew
All with different roles to play

Down the hills and round the bends

Can I hazard a guess that you're an ex redditor? People try to be nicer to each other here. I'm a reddit refugee myself and it's sometimes hard to change habits but this place is nice and it's worth it. To me this whole migration kerfuffle seems like a rare opportunity to be more thoughful in my interactions with people online. So far it's making for a much nicer experience.

The kind of people who stick around because you pay them aren't the people you want to stick around.
Coincidentally I notice that Conagra Brands, Inc. (CAG) is trading down at the moment (28.01-0.28) so if you'd like to buy some shares in one of the biggest producers of popcorn in the world now's a good time lol

Now that some time has passed, what do you like and dislike about kbin?

I like that kbin is smaller compared to some lemmy instances. I also prefer the UI. Bigger communities tend to feel a bit overwhelming for me. I also appreciate how transparent Ernest has been regarding kbin's development. That said, it's been a bit challenging to figure out how to utilize some of the federation features that...

I'm a reddit refugee and as a non technical person I actually prefer kbin to reddit. It's nice and simple and I get all the content I need easily. The only thing I wish was 1 click less is viewing images/videos. At the moment I seem to have to click on a post to go to that posts page and then click on the image/video in that post to see it full size. I wish I could just go through my feed expanding and dismissing images and videos with 1 click without having to load a separate page. Kbin is awesome though and definitely my home for the foreseeable :)

I occasionally peek at reddit through a periscope just to see how the dumpster fire is going. Each time I've done it it reminds me of what a toxic hellscape it is. I'm never going back to that horrible place. I use kbin and don't really know Lemmy and only vaguely understand what instances and federation are but so far there's been more than enough content to keep me... ahem... content. I've also noticed that over the last couple of weeks the content on kbin has increased both in quantity and quality. It's not an easy transition because I was very badly hypnotised by reddit but I know it's the only way forward.

I wish I'd known how nice a place this is ages ago! After 10 years I was so institutionalised to the way reddit was, it was really hard to imagine using anything else and having anything like as nice a user experience. So many times over the last few days I've suddenly realised that for hours I've been browsing Kbin and not reddit. It's a nice feeling. Also, now I've replaced all my reddit bookmarks with Kbin ones which makes it feel a lot more permanent.
