What we all know is these types of bigots are on the outs. Shame the fuck out of them, they don’t do anything positive for your communities. They are wildly thrashing (with seemingly powerful national voices). They will never completely go away but they are reacting to a change in the norms that’s been coming for decades.
I’m genuinely confused… I scrolled through MikeOxlong’s comments and I can’t figure out what point they’re trying to make. They keep talking about “opposing thoughts” getting shunned but I can’t find any actual thoughts or points of view they’ve presented about the article OP posted.
I have most of the Fediverse-based account and seem to have just gravitated towards Lemmy over Kbin as found it very confusing, What makes you prefer Kbin over Lemmy or any other Fediverse instances?
But also: I have accounts on kbin, Lemmy and mastadon, my favorite part is switching when I need a different flavor of hot/active, or something’s going on with another server.
So I’m still getting the hang of the fediverse, and really enjoying my time here. This may be helpful for new people trying to figure out their setup.
-Pixelfed is your instagram: I joined Pixelfed.social since in general I am trying to see how the largest communities play out
-Kbin or lemmy is your Reddit. Again I joined kbin.social, but these communities all talk (or “federate”) to each other so it’s a matter of personal preference if you want to join the main .social or find an alt instance that feels more like you’re kinda stuff
-Mastadon is your twitter (I’m sure there are others, I’m just not a big twitter style person). Honestly I wasn’t a big twitter person anyway, but a cool thing about ActivityPub is you can see things from kbin, pixelfed, etc from any one of them. It’s not always clean but it’s pretty dam cool
I wish all well in their journey across the threadiverse. It really does seem awesome even if it’s taking some time to build up with users and content.

I trust the Dutch with this design, bikes are treated as priority with a lot of respect. Not the same in the US… and in this test, I especially wouldn’t trust college town kids and local drivers who asked for (and got) additional parking on the same street.
Oh wow, that’s scary. I’m semi-rural too, thankfully I don’t hear much about accidents or incidents in roundabouts at least locally. I’m curious about areas where there are pedestrians and bikes that cross roundabouts too… where I’m at they are farther away from walkable/bikeable territory so it’s really just cars using them.
I’m going to assume positive intent and not the hostile tone “knock it off” reads like to me.
True… roundabouts took some time but are pretty prevalent now in my region and people have gotten used to them. I don’t think the US shouldn’t try things, just pointing out a difference in culture and attitude towards cars & bikes in the US compared to Dutch. I also don’t think a college town is the right place to test something like this, maybe I’m wrong and discounting younger drivers too heavily.
But it's just not the same. There are no apps. The format is not reader-friendly. Usability is way low.
Hang in there, there’s an app Artemis coming in the next couple of weeks. I believe it’ll be a public beta so prob lots of QOL thinks to work out, but it’s coming.
Separately, I am personally perfectly OK if kbin is not like the Reddit experience in terms of community and content. I prefer it that way.
It’s hard to read anything about this guy and not think immediately… Fuck this dude. I know there are tens of thousands of employees behind him but still I just can’t help it.

Reddit hated emojis, how does Kbin feel?
Seemed like emojis in posts / comments would get downvoted to oblivion on Reddit. I don’t see the same thing on Kbin (or other instances / services).
Excited, indifferent or not excited for splatfest?
I love the world vibe and tricolor, although the turf war grind is pretty boring and I miss ranked modes. Probably not a hot take.
