@7u5k3n Haha happily I've managed to fix all the incorrect indices. No more unsettling shapes.

I love what @ernest has built and I'm amazed at the amount of work he is able to put in kbin.

I've seen a couple of questions about third-party apps for kbin, and while that would be nice in the future, I think the mobile version of the site works pretty well.

I was wondering if there are plans to make the web version an installable progressive web app (pwa)?

@Oteron Isn't it already? Firefox on android let me install it.

@Oteron I just double checked and your right its just add to home.

works like this: Upvotes/downvotes do not cross instances. Lets say this post has 100 upvotes on kbin.social and no one on kbin.social votes on it ever again. Over on anotherInstance.net it gets 222 upvotes. Those votes only stay on anotheInstance.net and kbin.social continues to show only 100 upvotes. Do I have that right?

@Cat Not sure if that is how it is supposed to work or if the differences are due to federation being a little broken at the moment.

Howdy! Has anyone complied the kbin-mobile app?

Found the kbin-mobile GitHub, cloned the repo and tried to build the app with flutter but it keeps running into errors with the Google dependencies. I'm not at an expert at these things and idk why they didn't just provide an apk in the releases section.

Has anyone successfully built the apk who would be willing to share it?

Thanks!

@sauron They haven't provided an apk in the release section because its not finished yet. Its unlikely anyone will have a usable version for a while. Most development work is currently going into server and infrastructure support. If you want to support the development I'd recommend donating at https://www.buymeacoffee.com/kbin.

When will the Kbin mobile app release?

@genesis I expect Ernest has a lot of work to do right now server side, so the app will probably be on the back burner for a little while yet.

How do you feel about cross posters?

I ran a fedi node since 2017, that I shutdown on my own accord because I couldn't stand all the drama. So this is my official return to the fedi. :)

When the waves of twitter users began to wash over us during 2022 I saw a lot of cross posting from Twitter to Mastodon.

My gut instinct was that I hated it, because I had to store those posts in my DB, as did all other admins. And besides it was often one-way communication.

Now when I see a magazine such as m/publicfreakout empty, for example, I feel like doing the very same thing. Making a bot that siphons the corresponding sub on reddit, checks if the url is posted, and otherwise posts it.

Does this sound like a dick move?

(Of course this discussion might be pointless if the reddit API becomes pay2play, but I'd still like to know what you think.)

@stemid I feel like just cross posting everything from reddit is too much. Especially since a lot is out of date or not topical anymore. However I think posting recent top posts could be beneficial and would hopefully encourage more participants.

Hello everyone, new reddit convert so I'm not exactly sure where this kind of post should go, or if I should direct it at someone or not. But had a question about the cloudflare setup for kbin.social. Basically I use the JShelter extension on firefox and it looks like if I have the fingerprint detector on cloudflare will ask to verify I'm a human forever and never let me into the site. I haven't ever had this issue on other sites (I've gotten through cloudflare checks with the fingerprint detector on other sites) so it would seem like it's something in the cloudflare setup that could potentially be adjusted.

Basically, I'm wondering if that is intended behavior or would there be any consideration in adjusting it to not block people using privacy extensions? Thanks!

@evilviper Pretty sure the CloudFlare protections are just temporary due to the sudden influx of users. They should be disabled eventually.
