johannesvanderwhales,

I don’t really have any interest in online competitive gaming, but messaging an opponent to tell them they suck after you beat them badly doesn’t really seem to follow the precepts of sportsmanship.

KISSmyOSFeddit,

Does it count as paid if I donated what I think is a reasonable price?
Cause then it’s KDE, Firefox, Thunderbird, LibreOffice and Gimp. I’d prefer those programs even if their proprietary counterparts were free.

TootSweet,

“Star Trek Continues”. It’s a fan “continuation” of TOS. It’s surprisingly good.

People have cheated in the samples and req slips and such and ruined progression for others. It’s not the same as competition cheating, but the “point” of the game is the grind, and some lost out on it. I think AH rolled back most of the effected accounts though, but it’s a little deeper than just no PvP = cheats sorta fine

undeffeined,

I guess that would depend on the cheats applied. If no checks are in place, griefers could for example make themselves invincible and kills teammates.

Two sides of it 1)due to the multiplayer aspect, these cheats may end up affecting other people directly who join the hacked game. 2) It’s not going to be all hackers, but it is kind of a community problem when people hack their way to quick completion, and then start complaining about a lack of challenge and/or end game.

someguy3,

Police in Indianapolis have identified a 12th body buried on the estate of now-deceased wealthy Republican businessman Herbert Baumeister, a closeted gay man who is believed to have murdered over 20 men and boys that he met in Indianapolis gay bars during the mid-1980s and ’90s.

asymmetric,

Before people get carried away with the weird narrative that Pilestedt was forced out in some sort of corporate coup, read the article. He stepped down by his own decision into his new role as Chief Creative Officer. He handpicked the new CEO. Also some relevant quotes from him:

“I’ve been thinking about the journey ahead for Arrowhead, the future games we’re going to be making, and running the organisation beyond the 120 or so developers we have currently,” he tells us. “I realised that running an organisation of over 100 people to however large it is going to get… it means I will [have to choose] between deepening my love for game creation, or the business track."

“Over the last year going to launch of Helldivers 2, I’ve been pulled more towards the business side of things, and not able to focus as much on the creative side. That made me realise I needed to make some decisions, both for the success of the business but also myself."

So he’s focusing on the game rather than the business aspect.

Honestly I am OK with this. He’s repeatedly demonstrated that he seems to be the only dude at AH who isn’t a hostile asshole to players and more importantly he recently admitted that balance for the game has not been good. AH has spent the last few months squeezing out a lot of the players’ goodwill from the game, but this gives me hope that maybe they can course correct from here on out.

kat_angstrom,

I hate how this is phrased as “redundancies”. IGN literally JUST bought these outlets, they haven’t had time to dig into and examine the organizations they acquired; it’s just straight into the Corpo playbook of “lay people off and let the dust settle where it may”.

These are people, not “redundancies”. They contributed in the old organization, and they could contribute in the new, but they never even got the chance.

Democratic US lawmakers introduce bill to bar foreign payments to president (www.reuters.com)

Democratic U.S. lawmakers introduced legislation on Tuesday that would bar the president and other top officials from accepting payments from foreign governments while in office, a measure clearly aimed at Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump....

Pringles, (edited )

I had to scroll waaay too far down the article to find the name of the person referenced, so for those just wanting to know the name of the immigrant: Baron Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben

You’re welcome

Mbourgon,

Huh? When did it go to crap? I read it for at least several years regularly. Kieran etc
