Considering that I've learned about this shiny new feature only through you, #ctjs really is underselling itself and there is even zero word about #CatNap visual programming language on GitHub. Plus yet another #opensource tool network effect of which is confined in Discord. So, branding attached to favorite programming language isn't the end of the story. :ablobthinking:

I love what the maintainer CoMiGo is doing, though. Can't believe there are mere 3 paying subscribers on Boosty. I wanna make the number go up after my paycheck! ;)

@geos It works. But I think what @thelinuxcast is referring to is the stability with which UI defaults change. One month settings are there, another they are under some other category. Edit Mode where desktop preview changes size because of appearing and disappearing panels. Well, I can live with that.

@johnglass @itsfoss That's a default setting, which I forgot to mention, hm... Sorry!

It basically never worked for me and even managed to temporarily modify the connection while browser is in use, so I switched DNS proxy off in #Waterfox and I now use an extension for my trusted proxy that is never slow.

Upon the reflection, I would recommend WF less than, say, Librewolf. Mobile version doesn't appear to have the highlighted problem, though.

OK, maaaybe there is an issue of notifying the players. Maybe you wanna make it an "event" in Discord or whatever planning app your friends use.

Then, how about we don't reinvent the wheel and use calendar? There is a file format for describing what is, where and when to come. The game could drop you that to add in your personal calendar. No hassle with bots, no hassle with emails, no proprietary systems with shady unreliability. Just a grassroots planning of your game session with random strangers or buddies on the Internet.

I think this will drastically improve the deserted situation with Team Fortress 2 Classic where players have to roll snowball of entry. Give your players simple tool and they'll grow interested in the online game!

But I also consider that idea of future matchmaking falls apart when players change time and have no means of communicating it with peers. Reissueing ICS (calendar) file is no-op, because by the time it's received it's already late.

Plus it doesn't have to be all about consistency with your personal calendar, it's just a game. It could become a calendar client of its own if that really was necessary. But this adds an overhead of authentication and making sure time periods are kept in sync between people.

For example, in case of Team Fortress 2 Classic, we could emulate event planning via means of Steam. Or could we? Does the game have an access to such API as group DMs? Unless it does, we can't have such feature without hoops. And don't forget how it misses the point of private booking entirely.

@itsfoss Installing Ubuntu was a pain. First attempt created a black screen, second was the same. Had to dig up several tutorials which involved tinkering with command line. Turns out some Nvidia drivers problem. Another challenge is a limiting nature of GNOME desktop environment. Never got used to popups moving literally an entire parent window stack with itself (???).

@itsfoss I was a bit disappointed with formats introduced by Logseq and Joplin, so I wanna give #TriliumNotes a try! Interface looks clean and fun to fiddle with so far. It has canvases, relations and even page blocks. Now, that should be interesting.

It is enough for me that Linux and Windows are supported. I wouldn't expect a FOSS app to have build for macOS. ;) On mobile, it seems that #Obsidian takes the lead, and I recall that it does not wrangle my files, with right settings.

@jupiter_rowland The intent of my request doesn't include technologically modifying someone else's post, no-no. What I meant is a form of suggested content: alt-text contributed in replies. When I think about it twice, such system is prone to bad acting, but so far immediate #AltText suggestion and fetching in replies seem to have benefits that outweigh disadvantages.

At least, it's better than to disregard entire posts just because author had no time for descriptions or missed a cue. Plus TIL there is an entire bunch of people that want to help caption things and it's already so integral to fedi that it feels less-than-modern to have no standard of displaying such suggested content in place where you really want it (alt-text right next to image, captionista's name included).

Thank you for the hashtags, though! They look like a step forward that apps can boot from. Again, it's not exactly a feature I'd expect to see in every client, just more specialized/advanced ones.

@jupiter_rowland What I have described is flawed in lieu of common delimiter for several media files in alt-text and definition of such text, so I understand why we might not be quite there yet! It is ultimately better when authors are considerate of captioning.

@itsfoss The thing is I'm not sure how to call those myself. By "buffered" part I mean that #SoundEffect is preloaded into memory, there is a good indication of when the sound starts and it can be replayed on top of itself. It sounds like a #soundboard, but all I really need is a #SFX player for arbitrary files, preferrably loaded in a batch.

To be fair, #FixTF2 is a good opportunity to gather all evidence of how aimbots affect the whole #TeamFortress2 and it's not just the major places that are at risk. Distributed moderation is kind of an idea that popped up in me when I was reminded of bad actors ganging up on servers of different sizes.

As @tijuu_ has pointed out, though, the ultimate and more realistic goal is to get #Valve to communicate at least some news, good or bad. And another insight that you can glean from the video is that players are self-moderating the space with reactive kick-voting, which is definitely awesome and contributes into distribution of power. Obviously, it can be abused by bots if they join in a batch, so developer needs tell the community what is needed to prevent this.

All that #SaveTF2 people ask is a tiny inkling of participation with basic feedback from the developer, not yacking the lootbox cash-cow or other masking updates.

@GhostOnTheHalfShell What I end up doing in #MastodonWeb for finding whether a certain name is in my followers list is press "Followers" and scroll down extensively with a page search and name entered until I (don't) find who I need. Such is the trick with pagination systems and manual search. I wish there was a better way to filter such lists throughout the interface, as you're requesting...

@huuishuu Great point there. I'm recently engrossed in microblogging about TF2 and bot crisis, so saying I found this relevant is like saying nothing.

I'm positive about Team Fortress 2 Classic, as it strips out all the junk that Valve has added after the golden period of TF2 and provides an installer for Linux. The game is well optimized and I simply can't get over how underrated it is... Realizing that it will take a snowball effect to roll in players and new servers with proper moderation, which is hard.
