The last 10 days have been a whirlwind for the #fediverse. Important new versions of @mammoth and @ivory launched. Wordpress and Tumblr reaffirmed their commitment to ActivityPub. And Threads and Flipboard began to federate. What does this all mean for the fediverse? How will moderation work? Who will be next to federate?
@mike Interesting episode. But this is 5th episode (out of 5) that the person being interviewed is a man, of which all but one are white. Any plans to fix this?
@tobiaalberti will be interviewing Mitchel Baker, ceo of Mozilla. Have reached out to others and awaiting record dates. Let me know if you have suggestions. Would love to hear who you’d like to hear from.
@mike
So far I've had well maintained posts in my timeline, rarely have to block anyone. Recently I saw for the first time that in the German part of the Fediverse the same post is published again and again under different accounts at Mastodon instances+wordpess. Something I had never experienced before. Maintaining your own timeline and who you follow with even more research and fact-checking could now also increase here... That's the downside of reach.
@werawelt@mammoth@ivory@Gargron it's the downside of scale for sure. But there are also a ton of upsides too. We have to keep innovating our respective services and researching/advocating for new approaches to combat the problematic and evil uses of this tech.
@seanbala@mammoth@ivory@Gargron yes just stood up our #peertube instance today. I love the platform and think it's an excellent way for content creators, publishers and companies to host and federate their own videos instead of only relying on YouTube.
Mastodon provides the discovery through the community. PeerTube provides the hosting and tools. An awesome combination.
