Here, but not here. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what drove me off Mastodon. , , (an odd one to affect me, since I am NOT , nor have I ever claimed to be) were the usual suspects.

Instance & did what they do best on the fediverse: they attacked. I was but one of a handful of voices on here that needed to be silenced. is one of their tactics. People come out of the woodwork to attack. It overwhelms.

They do this to score points with admins and mods calling the dogpile. Days and days of it, without relief. You block Every. Single. One. of them, but it’s never enough.

Finally, it seems as though they grow tired, and move on to their next victim. Until, months later, they start it all over again. Someone shares an old screenshot of you saying, (or something equally pro-Palestine), and once again, all hell breaks loose.

They do this until you finally can’t take it anymore, and you leave. You stop logging on because you feel so sick and depressed from it all. You’ve been and nearly to the point of breaking. You’ve been called horrible names by horrible people who have thousands of followers.

The fucking sucks. All of social media sucks. It’s all just a toxic waste land filled with pathetic people who have nothing better to do than to attack . 😑

At one point, I had the dubious honour of being in the top 10 most blocked accounts in one 24hr period.

It’s like crowdfunding, but focused on “cancelling” small, nobody accounts.

I’ve blocked from my memory why they went after me, because it was so damn pointless.

@TheLastOfHisName I agree with those thoughts. I walked away from BlueSky about three months ago because I was having massive panic attacks (brought on by rampant Islamophobia). I left Masto about 9 mos ago for similar reasons. While I miss interacting with folks like @jackyan and @Happyfishmedia, I have to take care of my mental health.

Watched The Bourne Legacy again last night—last time I saw it, Dad was still alive. Didnʼt come across as realistic this time. That chase was hard to believe, as traffic was actually moving at a reasonable speed on some roads. Thatʼs Hollywood for you.

Seriously, the most (chaotic) fun that I’ve ever had behind the wheel was in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. Where else can you experience not only a family of five on a motorbike (baby propped on the handlebars), swerving around stopped cars like a maniac, but also a cart pulled by a water buffalo coming right for you? 🤣
