Is it me or are reports in sometimes really confusing and unclearly laid out? Also I seem to get moderation from people on different instances about people on other instances not my own, is this normal?

Any experts here?

I want to make embedded videos work when offline. Is that possible?

The videos currently work when online, they're shared with the right permissions. I've told Slides to work offline. Chrome is up-to-date.

But the vids don't play when WiFi is off.

Any clues, gang?

(Not looking for alternatives to GSlides, thanks.)

@Edent are they embedded as in uploaded or from YouTube? If from yt you could potentially use YouTube downloaded and upload them that way maybe. Just guessing at a work around here

@Edent hmmm I don’t still have a Google account but I believe in drive.Google.com you could click the actions icon next to the file and say make available offline. Or if you’re on Mac or PC use the sync client to get an actual copy locally

I'm thinking seriously about getting Google out of my life, and trying NextCloud.

Looking to get a personal account through a managed provider.

Does anyone have any experience with it?

How does it compare to ownCloud?

Any hosts I should look at or avoid?

Any apps I should get for it, or avoid?

Any issues I should be aware of before I switch?

@ajsadauskas @asklemmy I’m also doing this but doing some of the hosting myself. I’m using @doncow to host my own email. I’m also looking at @cryptpad for apps. Those could fit your needs also. I’m not a nextcloud fan but I think these do have integrations.

Another thing that's different from my childhood:

How ubiquitous the was. It was in every doctor's office and in as many homes.

I don't remember the last time I saw a Readers Digest.

@jwildeboer what if as a community we take control of this narrative and out innovate the corporate’s in order to keep this open to all and prevent centralised control? We find a way to incentivise content creators that’s built in and non intrusive. Could we put together an open forum on this, I’m happy to help with servers and tech support to enable this discussion.

@jwildeboer Whilst that works and is great, it kinda defeats the idea of decentralised social networks. You'd need a login 9with payment system) for every video you wanted to support. It would be nice to have a mechanism in @peertube where you can have private content, that's only accessible if you subscribe, and doesn't matter what server it's on.

@andycarolan yeah I agree. I do want a colour kindle though. Maybe something I can have different book stores on. Then a fediverse app (bookworm is it) on it also hehe. Is that too much to ask! Let’s start a kickstarter campaign!
