Few drugs have achieved the stardom that semaglutide, marketed in the United States as Ozempic or Wegovy, has today.

@KnowableMag explores what’s next in the Ozempic era: https://flip.it/0FVji6

Story also available in Spanish: https://es.knowablemagazine.org/content/articulo/salud-enfermedades/2024/que-sigue-en-la-era-ozempic

@StanWonn @KnowableMag Thanks for sharing your story. It's important to remember that these drugs aren't just for vanity-inspired weight loss.

If you missed last week’s total solar eclipse, you’ll have seven opportunities over the next decade to bask in the shadow of the path of totality. You just might have to travel to get there. Live Science tells us what to know, from where to go, how long each will last, and more. https://flip.it/eKUvzt #Science #Eclipse #Sun #Moon #Earth

If you're in North America, are you ready for the solar eclipse? AP has everything you need to know about the April 8 event: https://flip.it/g-qy.m

If you're in the path, do you plan to view the eclipse? Tell us why in a reply.

Scientists at Uppsala University have discovered a new class of antibiotics with potent activity against multi-drug resistant bacteria. Phys.org has more, including how antibiotics have become heavily relied on for a multitude of treatments, but a global rise in antibiotic resistance threatens their effectiveness. https://flip.it/djErZ8

Sperm whales off the southern coast of Western Australia devised a clever, if smelly and gross, strategy to protect themselves from what could have been a fatal attack by 30 killer whales. Scientists were there to witness it, and Live Science tells us more: https://flip.it/U2Oq1_

A state of emergency has been declared in southern Iceland after the eruption of another volcano on the Reykjanes Peninsula, the fourth since December. The head of department at the Icelandic Meteorological agency said there could be "dangerous" consequences if lava reaches the sea as it flows southwards. BBC News has more, including video and photos.

https://flip.it/1dNiPZ

CORRECTION (added March 19): The BBC story incorrectly identified the meteorological agency as being Norwegian.

ScienceDesk,
@ScienceDesk@flipboard.social avatar

@Ruth_Mottram Thanks for spotting that. The BBC story indeed says "Norwegian" instead of "Icelandic." We've corrected our post.
