I got a notification at the Bad Place informing me that they have reviewed my account and generously granted me Premium for free, along with a blue check.
I also haven't been able to log into the website on Firefox for about a month. So that's how things are going over there.
@evacide why not delete the account? Are you keeping it to keep exposure for EFF reasons? I understand that’s certainly an exceptional reason to keep it.
@evacide oh I can’t believe I didn’t think of that. Especially given your position. Can’t imagine if some like crypto scammer somehow took that account over!
@atomicpoet every popular post from threads I’ve seen ultimately has had some branded corporate threads account replying “haha me too! download Calm App”
Threads is shitting all over my mastodon timeline.
I’m all for the advocacy of AP but indirect advertisements wasn’t on my bingo card sigh
“Following the UK, the next countries that had an increased rate of adoption of video surveillance using ‘open street’ cameras were the southern and eastern European countries.”

@Viss people still use Google? Weird. Adding AI to maps (and other products) is a sign of how absolutely garbage they are. Just grasping at straws riding the AI hype and laying off people.
What do you expect from the company that would track users in Chrome incognito mode? Garbage company, garbage products.
@Viss I don’t know I don’t use any Google products. I use AI free, privacy respecting Apple Maps like a normal person. Guess people who refuse to use Apple Maps, arguably the next best map product out there next to what Google maps used to be will have to guzzle that delicious AI down like it or not.
@Viss I’m open to hearing what you’re referring to. I mean we all know Google mines our every movement, data etc. for targeting ads to sell to brokers and such.
What specifically in Apple Maps is violating my privacy? I’m genuinely curious what Apple is doing that violates my privacy with regards to say Apple Mals usage. Certainly Google Maps isn’t respecting my privacy….
@Viss Sounds to me like the notifications issue are apps themselves abusing that data. Hopefully apple clamps down on that.
"It’s possible to opt out of Apple showing you personalized ads in the App Stores, News, TV, and Stocks apps. If you want to turn off Apple’s personalized ads on iOS, you can do so by going to Settings > Privacy & Security > Apple Advertising and toggling off Personalized Ads."
Okay, so I showed the "Pianogate" video to my Chinese wife, and she has a perspective that I hadn't even considered.
She thinks that Dr. K is a big colossal asshole for not agreeing to the Chinese groups' request to not be filmed.
"But what about the UK's right to film in public?" I asked her.
And she told me, "Okay, yeah, you have that right. But there's a reason these folks probably don't want to be filmed and that's because they don't want to be seen outside China. Whatever they do outside China affects their families in China. If the Chinese government perceives you as screwing up abroad, they will also hold that screw up over your family."
"But these people probably work for the CCP," I told her.
"Yeah," she said, "But that's all the more reason for them to be concerned about being filmed. You think people back in China want to see the CCP living it up in the UK? And CCP people have families too -- their families have nothing to do with this, but they're the ones who will be penalized for this viral video."
Then my wife looked at me with a very serious expression, and she said, "Look, this white guy is clearly just antagonizing the Chinese for views. He thinks it's a big laugh. But while he's laughing and getting his views, who are the ones getting hurt? He never thought about the actual consequences to families, did he?"
"They're already talking about this on WeChat and Weibo," I told her.
@atomicpoet they’re free enough to travel to England? If they don’t want their faces filmed don’t leave China I don’t know. Their personal choices shouldn’t impact this guys rights in England. Especially since they were safe, clearly privileged (traveling outside China) and being filmed by 100 other cameras at that time.
@atomicpoet They were being filmed 100 different ways, but they only cared about this one seems weird. I guess if you don’t wanna be filmed, don’t go out in public in England, in a public space to a tourist attraction piano that is literally known for open filming with tons of other people filming at the same time clearly other people had their phones out.
I just watched the first episode of "Masters of the Air”, and wow it is captivating.
But I can't seem to figure this out: It portrays these skilled soldiers from a big western country arriving in England, dead set on defeating Adolf Hitler. They don't spend their time on political intrigue, or internal fights — they just want to kill Nazis.
They seem commendably heroic, and I really respect their will to stand united with us Europeans to defeat the evil dictator.
@VikingChieftain@accretionist I mean the show is based on the book “Masters of the Air: America's Bomber Boys Who Fought the Air War Against Nazi Germany”
But obviously maaaaany countries went all in against the Nazis and before the US.
