The yearly running costs for an automobile in Australia in 2022 was $18,715.32 (according to Budget Direct), including car loan but not including outright vehicle purchase.

The cost of public transport in Victoria in 2024 is $2,756 per year, presuming use five days per week without a myki pass.

That's a significant saving if you don't have a car. But I do understand that not everyone (or even most people) can get by easily without a car. I consider myself to be in a very fortunate position.

I've made the following changes to the inner-Melbourne bike route map.

  • Deleted Footscray Road Path due to indefinite closure.

  • Extended network to Arden Station on Laurens and Queensberry streets.

  • Downgraded Macaulay Rd and parts of Arden St to 'high traffic stress'.

I was doing pretty well yesterday until around 3 pm. Then whole body flu-like symptoms took over. Really not very nice. But that's subsided this morning. Back to cold-like symptoms.

My lungs are fine (as far as I can tell) but I can hardly breathe through my nose and I'm sure I'm oxygen deprived when sleeping (when my brain closes my mouth and forces breathing through my nose).

It's curious how rural/regional areas tend to vote conservative, but in order for their towns to survive, they have to implement socialist practices.

We saw it happening in Lockington (northern Victoria) as part of my planning course. Most of the services in town are a co-op. Even the pub.

I do find it a little bit funny that the original frightening horns on the X'Trapolis trains are being replaced with nice not frightening horns. But the original not frightening horns on the Comeng and Siemens trains are being replaced with new frightening horns.
