The idea of a Credit Card is the perfect example of how much the US loves adding completely unnecessary steps to a process.

Debit card: pay a bill by transferring money from your bank account to the person’s account - 1 step

Credit card: pay a bill by using credit from a company, waiting from them to actually transfer the money, transferring money from your bank account, waiting for that to actually proceed otherwise you have no more “credit” in your credit card - 4 steps.
Also, never go below your available credit otherwise you’ll have to pay horrible interest!

Other examples: American taxes, American healthcare, American pension, American voting system,…

Also, just in passing - I support the strike and all its demands, actually I think the demands are really not going far enough, did you known the PhD students are not even paid for the teaching they do??

#Programming in #Python question:
This should be easy, but I can’t find a straightforward solution anywhere. How can one ask the user to select one **or more ** directories using a graphical interface?

There is “tkFileDialog.askdirectory()” in the Tkinter module but it only allows to select one directory. Any implementations of that function that allow for directory multiselection?
(Yes, I could do a loop and call the same function multiple times but I wouldn’t call that straightforward)

Why is it that all university training for their staff consists of silly animations and extra-slow videos with individual sentences coming up one at a time with no way to just see all the text at once?
Do they think that making us waste our time in an extremely frustrating way is going to make us remember the contents better?

Imagine if each new grant funded came with at least 1 compulsory replication of a previously-unreplicated finding… And also imagine if scientists were evaluated on how easy it is to setup a replication of their published findings, and how well their findings replicate…
Wouldn’t that be the best way to move science forward as well as properly evaluate scientific quality of individuals?
