I'm the author of How to Build a Human and Swearing Is Good For You

I love a funny footnote

I'm usually #writing, doing #research, or talking about #neuroscience or #AI

I enjoy #bouldering and #theatre

I'm a practicing therapist and believe we should stop prescribing individual solutions to systemic problems like, right now

I've been online since the schrrrrr....schrrrr...eeeeeeee...boingboing days and committed my first code to a C90 tape

Hey any journalists on here plz turn your public post indexing on, because most of you haven't and thats why people looking for public information cant find you.

Go to settings > public profile > privacy and reach, select "include public posts in search results"

Not all the fedi wants to be a public space, and thats fine, but some parts should be right now.

emmaByrneAuthor,

@jonny thank you for the reminder

Last week I noticed a bunch of students without winter gloves

Two days ago I gave my students winter gloves

Today one of those students came in with one glove

I asked him if something happened to the glove

He said he gave one glove to his younger brother so that each of them would have one

Tomorrow I will bring more gloves

emmaByrneAuthor,

@Saltssaltgirl it's really dusty in here... ๐Ÿคง

Home security reminder...
Many people are going away for Christmas which makes their homes easy pickings for burglars.
For security reasons, I strongly recommend leaving one of your children behind to construct a series of elaborate booby traps and defend your interests.

emmaByrneAuthor,

@juglugs likewise office Christmas parties are frequently used as opportunities for criminals to circumvent security, even in prestigious high rise property. Ensure at least one of your employees has an ex-spouse who longs for reconciliation and who happens to also be a highly trained law enforcement officer

What songs do you think are too good for their subject matter, like a song for an ad that's actually good, or a children's show theme song that slaps, ect?

Hello - really enjoying meeting you and seeing your work!

I have two nonfiction books so far:

Swearing is Good For You

and

How to Build a Human

They're both popular neuroscience/psychology books.

If you're looking for presents for an old swearer or a new parent, may I humbly suggest them?

emmaByrneAuthor,

@technoshaman001 in passing but not in depth. But I practice mindfulness as a bulwark against my recurrent depression. Jon Kabat-Zinn was my first introduction to the practice

Outdoor cats are using $500 Starlink satellite dishes as self-heating beds.

The devicesโ€”developed by Elon Muskโ€™s SpaceXโ€”have a warming feature to prevent snow buildup from disrupting the signal.

At least 4 of my goats are in heat this morning, including my loudest goat and 2 of her daughters. The herd is SO LOUD this morning!

Before I bred goats, I did a bunch of reading about the "subtle" ways to tell when your goat is in heat. Well, it turns out (at least for my goats), they yell their heads off continuously for about 48 hours, to the point where I start worrying that they are actually injured, even though I know they're just in heat. Poor goats.
