31: author's choice

It's been 23 days since I finished the time travel series that's been living in my mind since 2012 and that I've been actively writing since 2015. The first several days were really hard for me emotionally, both from the grief of ending That Thing That's Been Me for 11 Years and from the stress of what I put my characters through at the end 😂

But as the days have passed, honestly, I'm feeling really good about it!

I'd had a vision in my mind of what the ending needed to look like, but as the story got so big/the plot lines got so complicated, I had a hard time keeping it all straight & I was scared I was going to screw it up. But now it's done & I'm SO happy with it. Everything came together exactly as I'd envisioned all those years ago. I'm grateful to my past self for outlining so diligently because even though it was a difficult process, I was able to get all the plots to align because of that outline.

When I think back on the story, there's no "oh crap, I meant to do this," or "I wish I'd done it that way." It came out exactly how I wanted and I'm just aaaaaahhhhh

Very very excited for everyone to be able to read it in October. I think fans of the series will be really happy with it.

Back in Feb, when Grammarly said they were going to think about incorporating AI, I immediately canceled my account and uninstalled. And now they've actually done it.

I'm sharing because with everything going on, writers might not realize this is happening.

If you can't stop thinking that the 70s were 30 years ago, the 90s were 10 years ago, the year 2000 was also 10 years ago etc, there's nothing wrong with you per se. It's just our brains track time in very weird ways

@Garwboy This is especially strong for me because I became chronically ill about 4 months after moving to a new state in 2013, which meant ENORMOUS event and then almost complete cessation of other time landmarks since then due to being sick, so it feels like this huge smeary blur where it was just 2014 yesterday and I'm still mentally timekeeping in 2014. Basically 2020 but it's been happening since 2014

I still see these weird apologetic prefaces to so many posts about happy, cute, or beautiful things.

Instead of "I know the world is spiraling toward fiery doom and everything is pointless, but I really love my parakeet and here's why", consider just posting, "I really love my parakeet and here's why."

No one is testing you on your Awareness of Every Bad Thing. (And if they are, these are people whose opinions you should not care about.)

@tomw @mishellbaker This is one reason why I enjoy myself here even after having had an anxiety meltdown over Twitter and deleting my account several years back. @ClH2OArs I saw someone talking about $15.99+ Big 5 ebooks yesterday and was thinking about how we're not even allowed to charge over $9.99 unless we take the tiny royalty.

I've got One World set to $5.99 and I know a lot of people are going to balk at that. But it's 600 freaking pages, I don't want to price it the same as my other books that are half that length!

I recognize this is a very long shot, but weirder things have worked out. Does anyone have any photographs from Anchorage, Eagle River, Wasilla, or Palmer, Alaska taken between late 2001 to mid 2002 that might include lamp posts?

Experience issues with the new Import from Instagram feature?

We will be shipping an update today that fixes a few issues and makes the process much faster!

Previous imports will be able to be cleared, and re-imported. A "Select All" button will also make it easier to select all posts!

A lot of the accounts you follow and interact with on here are not Mastodon accounts!

For example, @theatticdwellers is a PeerTube account, @Iancylkowski is a Pixelfed account, @rstv is an OwnCast account.

There are dozens of different server types on here, not just Mastodon servers. When you talk about this place, it's not enough to call it "Mastodon", because it's more than just that.

That's why people call this place "The Fediverse", because that name covers all server types. :fediverse:

@arstechnica Remember when they told us we'd never have to delete an email when we signed up for Gmail, and they kept telling us to archive instead of deleting because we should keep all our emails, and now it's "you have to start paying because your storage is full"
