Little thing says it likes Space War.
Audience thinks it means cheesy fake-ass space-opera space-war crap.
What time really means is hard-science-fiction scientifically-accurate space war.

Apparently it kicked off between Fury and Usyk at their weigh-in.

Whenever I see pictures of boxers squaring up to each other, it always looks to me like they're getting married and staring intensely and lovingly into each other's eyes.

Am I an overly pacifist dove; or do others see this as well?

Wasn't Captain Nemo the character going around sinking imperialist ships because colonialism is evil?

Seems ominous.

We currently have a system where we rely on hundreds of millions of individual drivers. If any one of them has a genuine medical episode, let alone some lapse of attention or judgment explained away as a "medical episode" by the cops, it is very easy for it to kill or seriously injure that person and others.

We used to have a system where most people walked or were passengers and the really dangerous vehicles were guided by rails, but apparently this is progress.

https://www.amny.com/police-fire/one-dead-in-six-car-pileup-on-gowanus-expressway/

swope,
@swope@mstdn.plus avatar

@capntransit

It's even worse because even when we have predictive factors we usually don't restrict high risk people from continuing to drive.

We invest so much into safety in other domains (aviation is the one I'm most experienced with), but somehow drivers get a pass to be much more risky to the people around them. I don't understand why.

swope,
@swope@mstdn.plus avatar

@capntransit

I can see that reasoning. It's not just the economy, but the whole structure of our zoning and transportation. Taking someone's license is tantamount to house arrest in a lot of suburbs and cities.

If we make commercial trucking pay for the wear and tear they put on highways, won't we push freight onto relatively efficient trains?

Too bad our cargo train system is fubar.

swope,

Are there any cities doing that already?

Well, my smartphone just screamed at me. It informed me that at 5:00 EST the army Corp of engineers will be using explosive cutting charges to slice up the part of the collapsed Francis Key Bridge which is currently draped over the cargo ship.

They said anybody within 2,000 feet should either wear hearing protection or hide inside a house.

I will comply...

I've been on 4 projects with Boeing (not as their employee), and in each case there were cultural things or people in leadership that I was uncomfortable with. The good people all seemed to leave Boeing as soon as they could.

I avoid working with Boeing now.

Fascinating piece of US culture: if you have an American flag sticker, t-shirt, hat, etc you are almost certainly a huge asshole. And there are even special variations of the flag (eg thin blue line) to let people know specifically what kind of asshole you are
