Finished Mind Meld (1997) by John Vornholt and I enjoyed it! The novel focuses on Spock and his niece Teska being pursued by Rigelian criminals.

As is clear from the cover, this book is mostly about Spock and a young Vulcan named Teska. I just wanted to clarify first that Spock is not her uncle by blood, but instead fills that role after Teska’s parents died. 1/8

I love that serious science continues on the possibility of warp drive. There’s a long way to go, but strides are being made and 39 years to warp drive actually seems possible

Sad news that John Trimble has died today. He and his wife Bjo organized the grassroots letter writing campaign that saved . That led to a third season and enough episodes for the show to be syndicated.

Without their efforts, we wouldn’t have all of the amazing we’ve gotten ever since and that we continue to enjoy and be inspired by. RIP

TrekLit readers and experts, @trekfan4747, @petertrek1, and @RogueMogh,

I need your help: Is there such a thing as a cozy Trek novel?
Ok, "cozy" may not be the right word here. 🙃 I am currently in book 3 of the Destiny books, which are pretty intense. Great, but intense. I think I need a bit of a breather after that.
I really enjoyed "Shadows Have Offended", and while it was suspenseful, it was not very intense.
Do you know (from the top of your heads) any books that go more in that direction? No big battles, not billions of deaths, no intense situations, just a fun Trek story?

Thank you!

@trekfan4747@trekkies.social avatar

@RogueMogh @theresmiling @mikey @petertrek1 The concept itself is a lot of fun, but some of those books are kind of intense. For me, the DS9 one (The Mist) was the most fun

Wow - this is the most powerful, profound description I’ve yet seen about Michael Burnham’s journey!

(From a new interview with Sonequa in Explorer)

…We start to see the confrontation. We spend a great deal of time in that confrontation phase where, "Now it is time for me to take a look. Now it is time for me to open the attic of my heart and figure out what's in here, figure out what's really been driving me, that it actually hasn't been about true purpose. It's been about fulfiling someone else's expectations for me. It's been about seeking and gaining approval. It's been about proving myself. It's been about absolution." That whole confrontation phase lasted a long time. All the stones were turned. It was rough, ugly, and full of tears. Then we come to the beginning of self-actualization with this woman. I'm so grateful I was able to tell the story of this Black woman being able to fall forward, because when you zoom out you see the beauty and the benefit of it, how everyone deserves second chances. That's when you can really see someone's potential, if you allow them to make those mistakes and learn from chem, so then that actualization begins. From that point until toward the end of the series, you're seeing that continue to expand and deepen, to where now - as we're coming into this last season - you see a more subtle Burnham than ever before. You see a Burnham who knows who she is, why she's here, and has more to learn. She absolutely has more to learn. Don't we all? At the same time, she had become settled in a way that... it's amazing that we get to see it. We get to see her get to that place.
