@juancommander I will be reading that paper on OpenAlex with interest, so congrats on that. I've been doing some consulting and taking a little time off, myself. Definitely enjoying spring finally getting here. Things are blooming about a month later than last year!

Me, feeding 2 people and 2 cats on a 60k EUR salary without benefits (because technically self-employed), reading those comments that claim a 501(c)(3) is some kind of nefarious scheme to hide money 😐

Before trusting an AI to tell you about stuff you don’t know, ask it to tell you about things you’re an expert in.

williamgunn,
@williamgunn@mastodon.social avatar

@josh @kfury How about this: Ask it questions where learning is asymmetrical. Where it's hard to learn but easy to validate. Questions about tax regulations, for example, or historical facts, or about any complex subject where there's a lot written, it's hard to know where to look to find the answer, but you know it when you see it

Access to STM content could be a big differentiator, though I wouldn't expect it to be exclusive. You think the perfect job doesn't exist.

    But Samuel L. Jackson has made over $300,000,000 from his 150+ movies.

    He says around 2000 words per movie, that comes to about $1000 per word.

    "Motherfucker" was 1116 of those words.

    Therefore Samuel L. Jackson has made over 1 million dollars for saying "Motherfucker".

    That's the kind of job we would all aspire to.

    Online media can be overwhelming. It's fragmented between countless services, websites, social networks, and apps.

    You need an app that weaves together an overview of nearly everything that’s happening across all the different services you follow.

    That’s our vision for Project Tapestry, the new Kickstarter we're launching today.

    Am I the only one who feels like still using employment rate as a metric for a healthy economy is basically just gaslighting at this point?

    Employment used to mean you had a good chance of affording a home, maybe two kids, and potentially even on just a single income. Now you can have a full time job and still need food stamps or a side job just to pay bills.

    Then of course, because salaries are so low relative to the cost of living, it makes employment numbers look even better because people who wouldn't have been forced to work now are. You have households where both parents have full time jobs, people with disabilities forced to work because they can't cover bills, students dropping out of college because it's now unaffordable.

    Then some goober economist comes on TV and goes "well, unemployment is at record lows so obviously everything is fine"
