Absolutely intense flooding in Dominican Republic yesterday. Don't think I've seen huge chunks of asphalt get torn up & flipped by a flood like that before.

citizen film of intense flooding in Dominican Republic November 18 2023. Filmed from a balcony. Shows a torrent of water rushing down an urban street along with many cars, SUVs, and trucks. At one point a man climbs onto the roof of an SUV and is forced to jump mere moments before a logjam of other vehicles is pushed by the waters into his. At another point a woman can be seen in the back of a pickup truck standing up and holding on as the water sweeps the truck by. Another section shows a truck-sized section of asphalt get flipped over and swept away by the water.

Heavy rains over the island of Quisqueya, especially the Central and Eastern Cibao region, and the south-east of Haiti. The predictions of 6 to 10 inches in 24 hours are true, most likely some areas will see more water. There are already reports of isolated communities.

Finally temperatures in Santo Domingo have dropped a bit, the extreme heat has ceased.
But we are not back to normal, daily heights about 32 degrees and water temperatures about 30 degrees are still above average, they should be 2 degrees less.

I'm all for a ceasefire in Gaza and for stopping Israeli bombings and cutting of essential services (water, electricity, food, medicine), but I can't support any "Free Palestine" initiative, unless it includes and .

It is Hamas that holds 100s of innocent people taken from Israel and >2 million Palestinians in Gaza hostage, whilst their leadership enjoys their life of luxury in the Emirates.

@mina Hamas is a radical Islamist group that was able to grow in Gaza due to favorable conditions; Israel's occupation of Gaza is the decisive contribution. Israel's policy of 'divide and conquer', see Hamas in Gaza and Fatah in the West Bank, was to destroy thePalestinian unity, which clearly backfired.
The first step to putting an end to the misery is to agree a ceasefire and a prisoner exchange.

    METAR at Acapulco International Airport is broken, or possibly the Internet is just disconnected. There are photos out there of the airport (which is in rather poor shape, but intact).

    In case you use a debian based distro "apt show metar" gives you the info, but most likely you know that.
