BRACE YOURSELVES 🚨🚨

7 Major Hurricanes!

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration on Thursday released its forecast for the 2024 season, which starts June 1, calling for a more active than normal season — thanks in large part to the off-the-charts high temperatures in the Atlantic Ocean.

NOAA is predicting that 17 to 25 named storms could form this year, with eight to 13 powering up into hurricanes

NOAA just released its forecast for the 2024 Atlantic season and everything points to a lot of storms, with 4-7 of them becoming major storms.

An expert on extreme weather explains what has led to the high accumulated cyclone energy that has meteorologists concerned:

WaPo: This hurricane season could be among the worst in decades, NOAA warns

The NOAA outlook calls for 17 to 25 tropical storms, 8 to 13 hurricanes and 4 to 7 “major” hurricanes and is the most aggressive May prediction the agency has made.

The season begins soon.

“…the ocean is anomalously warm, with seas closer to August "normals" than what is to be expected in late May.

The venerable forecast team at Colorado State…, has predicted an "extremely active" 2024 season with 23 named storms and 11 hurricanes.

Each of these values is about 60 percent higher than a typical season.”

Anyone have any Hurricane making advice? This is for the cocktail, not a cyclone. :) I'd prefer not adding to my over-extensive liquor collection, but I'm happy to buy or make syrups or other inexpensive items. I imagine I need passionfruit. ;) I live in an control state (), so ordering a particular booze can be hard. Cheers! 🍸

ok... woah

only a 10% chance of formation but that was unexpected.

Hello 👀 it’s a little early but we are already watching the tropics. A very small chance (10%) of tropical development for a little wave in the central Atlantic. Wind shear values remain high though making formation unlikely. Season starts June 1. First name:

Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Flagler Beach, Florida.

ai6yr,

Flagler's railroad was hit by the 1935 Labor Day Hurricane, and resulted in this scene... Category 5. Great summary of the hurricane at the NOAA.

"The tracks of the Florida East Coast Railroad were completely destroyed where they crossed between islands and were shifted bodily off their roadbed over long stretches on the Keys. An 11-car train, sent to Lower Matecumbe Key in an effort to rescue inhabitants, was washed from the tracks and only the locomotive withstood the force of wind and tide. "

https://www.aoml.noaa.gov/hrd/Storm_pages/labor_day/labor_article.html

Different view. Aerial photo of a number of train cars swept from their tracks and lying sideways on a sand swept island, black and white-- you can see trees are stripped of all vegetation and the entire island here is covered with sand. clearly swept by storm surge.
