I'm so excited about federating #Flipboard to the #Fediverse! We are getting closer every day.
I just recently saw a demo from our engineering team of a Flipboard account being fully federated and followable from #Mastodon. Now we need to interpret all the engagement signals (commenting, favoriting, etc) properly. This includes designing what Flipboard users should see when they click on Mastodon users who reply to them and vice versa. A bunch more to do but we are making serious progress.

@0x1C3B00DA Exactly. Our goal is to do federation in a way that is compatible with the full #Fediverse. That said it appears that there is no one true way to federate. We are learning that you have to strike a balance in which features we are federating and how those will be interpreted by other services in the fediverse.

Should serve as a template for other companies to both run their own service and interoperate with the #Fediverse, hopefully in a mutually beneficial way. Many exciting opportunities ahead... 👏
@mike You’re likely more correct than me since you’re spending the time on it. I think Threads has been a recent good example of shipping what you have and shipping often. We will see how they handle that release cadence with federation. Or, if they do!
@mike That is exciting. I’ve been watching and noodling ways we might wrap what you’re doing into something even larger. You’ve got a great digital collection of works there. I’d now like to see a new kind of library built around those stacks.
