Lasercutting

I designed this piece in Rhinoceros and laser cut it out of 1/8" plywood. It measures about 36" x 24". It's called Reef #1 (I expect there will be more reef designs).

@alecdanaher Very nice! And great execution with all the pieces of wood.

Xylem Arbor is composed of 224 lasercut bent aluminum leaves climbing up a 120’ tall atrium. Each has a different shape and filigree pattern inspired by natural patterns like leaf veins, dragonfly wings, cellular structures and sea fans https://n-e-r-v-o-u-s.com/blog/?p=9558 #lasercutting #sculpture #art #generativeart #generativedesign

The bottom of the Xylem Arbor installation has 12’ long green leaves overlapping densely
One of the leaves being lasercut
The turquoise section of Xylem Arbor had a more of a sea fan inspired structure

Second run with the laser engraver.
Didn't really anticipate the fine layer of ash that builds up on the paper 😅

Genuine question: Could I get a job where I primarily design lasercutting vectors? A good job, decent pay, stable, maybe remote, all that.

I'm wicked good at it with almost a decade experience. I just hadn't considered it as a primary vocation somehow. Probably because I don't have and didn't intentionally pursue a graphic design degree.

More context is I'm a hardware hacker and electronics PM.

How and where do I even look for this kinda gig?

matthewjones,

My wife and I don't exchange Christmas gifts, but every year we make an ornament for each other.

This was our fifth wedding anniversary, so I wanted to make something that reflected how humbled I am to be married to such an incredible woman. ;)

@amcewen nice! What do you use to power the LED lights?

Sag mal Mastodon, weiß jemand da draußen ob man Plexiglas zur Abschirmung von grünem Laser verwenden kann? Ich hab da so eine Erweiterung für meinen Ender, aber keinen separaten Raum.

thealteredstate,

Excited to share this stunning laser engraved whisky cask end! 🥃 Each detail meticulously etched into this piece of history. Perfect for any whisky lover or collector.

I was just measuring things to make a jig for my LaserPecker 2.

Anyone interested in getting into should know that they're having a 30% off halloween sale. https://www.laserpecker.net

The only real downside to the "cheaper" laser peckers is that it's proprietary software & the phone app requires you to log in to their servers. So, if/when they stop updating the software / servers we're screwed.

Don't get the LP1. it's a toy.
Don't get the LP2. It's fine, but the base of the LP3 and LP4 with their "positioning plate" make it 100% worth the extra.

The 3 also has a hole in the bottom which lets you easily do tall things (that fit).

🤔 I'd prolly go for the 4 with the extended work area, but you can always just make your own "extended work area" to put things on. But i'd have to ponder.

Anyway, the Laser Peckers are very good entry level devices.

I cleaned the and Lucy for and placed him inside our "new" outdoor light (vintage 1965 lantern with a DIY bracket and wired up for mains supply instead of a petroleum lantern).

Lantern at daylight. It is bolted to a bracket that mounts it to the wall. The lantern is black and features a small chimney. Windows are frosted glass. The bracket is mounted with shiny brass screws.

@stereo4x4 coincidentally I was just chanting "goo, goo, goo goo goo" at my wife

I found a signet and I am trying to figure out what the letter is. Can anyone help?

xahteiwi,
@xahteiwi@mastodon.social avatar

@oligneisti To me that's clearly a capital F. The cursive I was taught in primary school (Austria, 1980s) had an F like this.

Well this seems like an interesting idea: Gridfinity Frames for Laser Cutters.

And there's a bit more laser cut madness with Gridfinity, including bins, etc.

skyr,
@skyr@chaos.social avatar

@trestrantham @rasterweb the "holy trinity of making" is a 3d printer, a laser cutter, and a cnc machine... 🤷
