I don't spend much time here talking about X/Twitter -- I don't use it terribly often any more, but ...

... whenever I open a browser to check it, I'm startled by how long it takes to load the messages and posts

A lot of spinny loading-wheels, for many full seconds

I have no special insight into what's happening on the back end, but yowsa it doesn't look great from the outside user's perspective

I trust that those who make an effort to scorch offenders to the skeleton over "deadnaming", are doing so when offenses like "Xitter" are emitted, comparable to "Catbruce Jenner".

If X has transitioned, decent people should support X in this time of need.

Except for leaving, of course. Everybody should leave.

But, once out, call it "X". Why not? You don't live there any more. You're resisting and deadnaming to support your own denial, not for X.

@clive I miss a lot of things that I liked about that space. But when they locked down so you can't even reliably view a tweet without logging in, I kind of gave up.

@amanda

Yeah, it's really sad but that's the way it's going

@clive It's becoming worse every day. New Tweetdeck is so, so so bad.

@skrishna

Ugh, that really sucks

I know a lot of people who rely on X/Twitter for connections to their communities, for work, as a market, etc

I don't want the place to fall apart and turn into a septic tank

But here we are

toxtethogrady,

@clive @skrishna There are an increasing number of people and organizations who are just plain pulling the plug on the deadnamed Twitter.

And now I have no need to be there...

debs,

@clive same here - rarely ope. It - esp now with the black X rebrand - it screams get ready for some dark angry shit coming your way

@debs

There are still a ton of people posting interesting stuff, who I miss ...

But among the many other reasons I dove more heavily into mastodon and the fediverse, one was that I worried Twitter -- the whole damn thing -- would just flat-up 404 without warning, and all those connections to people would go poof

debs,

@clive I’m sure there are I just can’t put up with the toxicity I have to scroll thru to get there.

Interestingly - and probably stupidly - I never gave much thought or was worried it would all go poof -

@debs

My fears may be for naught!

But already the site doesn’t perform terribly well … I suspect things are still coasting along but as little aspects break and don’t/can’t be fixed, that will compound

@clive I suppose that's one way they can increase their "user-seconds" metrics that Elon has been touting. 😜

lol yes

@clive This type of situation usually results from eating the hamsters that are supposed to be running in the little wheels in the data centers.

ai6yr,

@lauren @clive They're not updating a person's stream unless you log in, I'm pretty sure, so it's catching up on the weeks/days/whatever of time since you last logged in. There's at least a 15-20 minute delay in normal processing due to lack of hamsters, as well, I am pretty sure. (not using the site much, just spot checking for official agencies/news nowadays).

@ai6yr @lauren

That makes sense, yeah
