Now that my son is doing college tours and getting ready to graduate high school, I’m thinking it’s time to take these off the cabinets

dougbot01,

@shanselman might be good for earthquakes still

@shanselman We need this sort of thing to keep the cats from exploring the kitchen containers and other equipment.

@shanselman They grow up so fast. It’s hard to keep up, right?

@dpp@mastodon.social avatar

@shanselman @MartinClausen fwiw, I kept mine on as I have a cat who is quite skilled in opening cabinets…

vincentbiret,
@vincentbiret@hachyderm.io avatar

@shanselman or leave them for the grand kids

@shanselman @ctietze At this point I would let them there for the grandkids 😉

Goldfigure,

@shanselman because you might struggle to get into the cupboard without his help?

hmrc87,

@shanselman we leave them on - for nostalgic reasons :)

@shanselman
These paid off when we got a dog.

@CEbbinghaus@mas.to avatar

@shanselman im sure they'll stop a cat from getting in. Always useful to have unless it makes it a pain to open

aggeka,
thelocehiliosan,

@shanselman Just leave them for the eventual grandchildren.

@shanselman Sneak them into his luggage when he moves to a dorm.

@shanselman I have a photo of my kid at 2 or 3yo with a sh-t-eating grin on his face, as he figured out how those latches worked & opened the cabinet under the kitchen sink. I didn't know if I should scold him or high five him.

This is a kid that also disassembled his Graco Portapotty to get to the music box inside & play the happy "reward/good job" music. Mom freaked. Dad beamed.

Now he's 12 & he managed to bypass Microsoft Family Safety's block on the Google App Store.

Little sh-t. 🤣

@lovestha@mtgjudge.social avatar

@shanselman Yep and in 30 years you'll stop automatically opening them the special way.

adminkirsty,

@shanselman
Keep them handy - you’ll be needing them again in 10-15 years 🥹

@shanselman we still have a baby gate at the top of our stairs. Now we think of it as an in-home security device.

@shanselman Ask him if he can.

@shanselman I don’t have kids but I have one very curious cat. I had to add them to my cabinets because she would always break in.

DavBot,
@DavBot@nerdculture.de avatar

@shanselman
Never let them know your next move.... put them on the "safe stuff" cupboards instead.

lostprototype,
@lostprototype@mastodon.social avatar

@shanselman - I've tended to leave them in case I have guests over with little ones.
