The CDC is warning that hospitals may have to ration care because of the winter virus surge.

But it’s extraordinary to me that hospitals continue to refuse to require and provide N95 masks to prevent staff from getting sick (as well as to protect patients).

@luckytran If they don’t require masks, we can’t trace who gave our friends and family an infection when they entered the hospital for routine care or were admitted for something else. It’s all about the liability now. Not about saving lives or keeping people well.

sentient_water,

@luckytran I've heard of & understand compassion fatigue but never heard of rationality fatigue.

@luckytran Yknow, I'm just a humble dingus who studied the approximation of underwater basket weaving in hard science ppls' view.

Yet MDs and NPs, who ought to be protecting their brains as though the loss of said brains would destroy at minimum their careers, seem to just be yolo-ing masklessly along.

I have to say, it's weird AF watching this go down. Via zoom. BC I have zero trust in the air at the docs' office not melting brains.

@luckytran Required in hospitals & clinics in some parts of WA again.

Providence Swedish tightens COVID, mask policy
Citing a rise in respiratory illness, local hospitals and clinics will require masks for care.

@Nshrubs @luckytran My husband had an appointment with a doctor at a very large clinic this past week, and he said while all the staff members he saw were masked (though not all in N95s), less than 50% of his fellow patients were. (He, of course, was. We’ve never stopped wearing masks when around other people).

@Laloofah @luckytran Ugh. Friend went in for her infusion at Fred Hutch recently & saw family members arguing with a staff person because they didn't want to mask despite their loved one being treated for cancer.

riedlr,

@luckytran does anyone know why? Seems like a great topic for a dissertation, public health monograph, class action suit, action adventure screenplay...

@luckytran it’s exasperating. The willful negligence and it’s just perfectly legal and fine. I hope someday we have Nuremberg style trials over this.
