A question for those of you who utilize the alt text in pics. What are your feelings on apps or people who use A.I. to generate the descriptions? Are you for or against, and why?
@Mrfunkedude I'm against the use of generative software where the training set has unknown or poor providence. I'm against calling LLMs or other generative software "AI". I'm against poor quality alt text, independent of source, when the quality is poor enough to inhibit rather than enhance the experience, especially for people that require alt text for accessibility.
But, if you have a training set you can morally consume and redistribute, and the output is of sufficiently high quality, use!

I'd be curious to know as well. I provide alt text with everything I post but AI might (probably) do a better job than me. More descriptions, better visualization maybe?

I'd be interested to know what apps people are using to generate alt text. I don't need it, but often use it to see if I'm missing context. I also think that AI being used in this way can be an accessibility tool for people that have problems writing alt text.
@RonniesaurusHex I believe the Icecubes app for Mastodon just added the ability to use AI to write all text for pics. That’s the only one I know of though.
