Apple Weather's 12-hour precipitation map takes so long to load in every time that 9/10 times I just close it and give up. Is that a universal experience? Or are Apple's local CDNs just abnormally slow here?
This progress bar either stalls or takes upwards of 30 seconds to resolve.
@stroughtonsmith It actually got a lot better for me recently, both in terms of loading quick and looking nicer. I wonder if improvements are coming to different areas at different times. I’m in Pittsburgh, PA.
@stroughtonsmith Chicago here. More often than not, it never loads. At some point they added a tiny progress bar so you could watch it fail a tiny bit less silently.
@stroughtonsmith it’s about 50/50 for me on iPhone, iPad, and Mac alike. Sometimes the map loads quickly, sometimes it won’t load at all, and often it’s just extremely slow.
@stroughtonsmith I have the same problem. On top of that, it is very unreliable and seems to be off by quite some time - shows heavy rain when it’s sunny/shows clear sky when raining. (Barcelona, Spain)
@stroughtonsmith I never had too many issues with load time (in Barcelona and London), it loads pretty much instantly. It is usually wrong, but it is wrong fast.
@stroughtonsmith Dark Sky was also this bad for me and sometimes never load and then eventually animate one random tile on the screen. Was hoping it would get better as Apple would have had seemingly infinite resources than the independent company.
Btw, how did you get this appear as a window-filling map?
@stroughtonsmith yea I haven’t been trusting of Apple weather for radar depiction. I’m not sure if they pull NEXRAD data from the live archive or what but it always seems to be slightly incorrect and looks overly post-processed.
RadarScope has been my replacement and I do think the pro subscription is worth it if you feel you need the extra detail. Im fairly certain RadarScope pulls NEXRAD data and displays it wonderfully, it is sometimes slow grabbing certain things (Level II data is big)
@stroughtonsmith How does one call that up? Is that iPad? VisionOS? Precipitation info comes up immediately on my Mac and iPad, but looks completely different.
@stroughtonsmith I experience that on the regular in Lincoln, Nebraska. I always chalked it up to us being a flyover state that Apple doesn’t care about.
