Nice journey, I like it a lot. Seems like I missed some of the best Kreator albums, as I ended with Coma of Souls.
I was a huge fan of Extreme Aggression and my favourite back then was Love Us or hate Us.
I was not too disappointed by the cover as I sorted that album as more political/social criticism as the albums before.
But thanks, I think I have to give Kreator some listenings.
The year is 1987 and #Kreator just released their third studio album "Terrible Certainty".
I had no idea that #Ventor provided vocals on the first albums, but this album is the first one where he didn't (well, except for on "As the World Burns").
Also: did Tobias Forge find inspiration for his Papas on this very album cover? 🤔
I don't think I ever listened to this song, but it went straight into my Best of #Kreator playlist.
That's exactly why I love my Metaljourneys, I discover gems I otherwise wouldn't.
Honestly I was already settled with a 3/5 rating for #TerribleCertainty , but then "One of Us" blew me away and the closer "Lambs to the Slaughter" was fantastic, so this will get another 3,5 out of 5 Papas smiling from the album cover.
If you are wondering, 3,5 = "good album" in my rating system.

Pretty sure Mille has told the story a bunch of times in interviews and on social media (was it among the "Kreator facts" posts they shared before the remasters came out? can't remember). Anyway, it was easier to just take the album out now.
#ExtremeAgression starts great and ends great. There are great songs in the middle as well, but also some average ones. Overall this is another "good" #Kreator album, a bit more melodic and I really like that.
3,5 out of 5, but I guess you can convince me that this is a great album.
What I notice immediatelly: Mille's vocal style changed with this one (or maybe I missed it before). Anyhow his vocals are cleaner and less harsh. I know Metalheads like the other direction, but I don't mind. Mille is awesome.
I love what #Kreator started with Extreme Aggression and continued with Coma of Souls. They took straight in your face #ThrashMetal added great solos and went into a more melodic area.
Oh boy. I am sorry, but Mille sounds terrible on this album. What were #Kreator thinking? They ruined an otherwise great album with these puberty vocal change like shouts.
The album cover of #Kreator's 1997 album #Outcast looks like if Paradise Lost and Nine Inch Nails had a baby.
The guitars on the opener sure sound like PL. I think the only song I know on this album is this one 👇
@derthomas My favourite from Kreator - and with the band it's similar to Anthrax: I like the albums that are classified as rather atypical by the fans. I like Outcast and Endorama - I saw Kreator live with the latter at the Zillo Festival (later M'era Luna), where Paradise Lost also performed. Those were hot times for gothic metal, hahah!
@trendskater you can really tell that this is a 90s album. And that being said, it was clear to me that this would be something for you 😉
Nonconformist is one hell of a song! And the album has Paradise Lost written all over it. Which I also like.

I found #Outcast quite enjoyable.
In terms of my rating, I still like the classic thrashers a bit better though.
And to reflect that, I'll give it a 3/5 (solid, might listen to it again)
Continuing my #Kreator#Metaljourney with Endorama. We are still in the 90s and according to all trve metalheads on metalarchives, this is the weakest Kreator album yet.
My take on this discussion: bands change, get over it.
@derthomas It is a good album. It's different, but still good, even if some people love to hate it. Still has fans. After the "Back to Live" show in Innsbruck in August 2021, Ventor, who was the first to come out, got assaulted with requests to play stuff from Endorama in the future. So if they choose to bring something back live, it's going to be a dream come true for some people in the audience.
I love post 2000 #Kreator and I like #ViolentRevolution, which is another good album on my #Metaljourney
It is not my goto Kreator album though, but still, good.

@derthomas I love this one. Title track is one of the finest ever. And I'd sell my soul to hear Replicas of Life (which they've never played live) at a show one day. Love how it starts all mellow and then explodes.
Also, wish the reissue for this could have come with some notes from Mille about every song, like the first batches of remasters did. I was so looking forward to reading those. And I wish they had kept the same visual look.
@derthomas Yeah, that's not all of it, just the digibook reissues. Love how they look next to one another. And I love what they did with them, Mille's notes about the albums as a whole and about the individual songs...

@derthomas@HailsandAles I think you’re right. But hey, it’s the classics, we listened to all those albums on endless loop back then. How often do you listen to your AOTY today? Well ...

And you are right, AOTY doesn't mean that it'll stay in rotation and become a classic. Realistically, despite being a good year last year, I only see 4-5 albums that I'll keep in the loop.
@plaindocs@HailsandAles@trendskater I mean I understand it, if you grow up with something you'll always value it more. I didn't listen to any metal in the 80s or 90s and started with all the newer releases. And often, if I then went back to the classics, I was a bit disappointed.

@derthomas I'm crazy about this one. Maybe it's also because my introduction to hard and heavy music was through the '70s bands and this album does have a more classic metal feel. But I love it, start to finish. And I'd love to hear live songs that didn't get that treatment. Like Lion With Eagle Wings - love it when Mille's whisper goes into a scream. Or Army of Storms in full.
I wasn't much into this record when it came out and unfortunately I am still not a fan. Some of the lyrics are borderline cringe (Strongest Of The Strong) and the chouruses are basically the song titles shouted repeatedly.
But not all is bad, the last 4 songs are really good and by far the best on the album.
@derthomas Ha! I happen to love the vocals on this, I think they go well with the frenzy, with the aggression.
I'd be curious to know what you think about newer live versions, though for Europe after the Rain there aren't many good ones (just a few recorded at festivals and the one on Past Life Trauma, all the others are really bad quality) and none of them really new, most recent is Wacken 2008 (from the Phantom Antichrist bonus DVD).
@kreatorfangirls fair enough! Honestly while listening to the album I thought that I'd love to hear the songs live with slightly different vocals, because musically it is a great one!
It's just not my vocal style I guess.
I'll check out some of the live recordings you mentioned.
@derthomas I feel like his vocal style changed progressively. From Endless Pain to Pleasure to Kill there's also a difference, though it got a lot more noticeable at the '90s boundary.
@derthomas That's a tough one... can't say I'm fully decided on which is his peak vocal moment. But I first listened to them after they switched to Nuclear Blast. So I'm always going to be partial to the new thrash era albums.
I started my Metaljourney because I never really listened to their pre 2000 stuff, and that needed to change.

@derthomas Enemy of God is such a treat live, especially when everyone sings along at the end. Already really liked them when I first saw them live, but the show, Enemy of God in particular... still so much better of an experience than imagined. Got home the night after the show, high on that thrill, found a work offer involving travel in my inbox, wheels started spinning 🤔 about how to use that to see them again. So I did, cracked a rib... Been following them for more of that thrill ever since.
