I am a huge fan.
I never listened to any of their pre "Violent Revolution" albums.

Is this a contradiction?

Well, I tell you one thing: it is reason enough for me to do another 🤘

Is there a better song title than...

@derthomas
Nice journey, I like it a lot. Seems like I missed some of the best Kreator albums, as I ended with Coma of Souls.
I was a huge fan of Extreme Aggression and my favourite back then was Love Us or hate Us.
I was not too disappointed by the cover as I sorted that album as more political/social criticism as the albums before.
But thanks, I think I have to give Kreator some listenings.

derthomas,
@derthomas@metalhead.club avatar

@Easydor thanks! Of course everything is subjective and I totally understand if the majority prefers the classics, they are all bangers, no question!

derthomas,

When released Endless Pain, Slayer and Metallica both had 2 releases, Anthrax, Megadeth and Exodus 1.

It sounds to me like was largely influenced by Slayer and Metallica's debut. But rather Slayer.

is a raw, straightforward solid thrasher.

Will I pick it up again? Unlikely, to be honest.

2,5 out of 5.

derthomas,
@derthomas@metalhead.club avatar

Album number 2 on my is Pleasure To Kill and with this one they add a Kreator signature: an intro!

Also instead of a Viking fighting Vikings some daemon creature is fighting skeletons on the album cover.

Musically, the opener...

I did spin Pleasure To Kill before, but I hated the production (I am a bit of a production snob) which made it unlistenable to me.

Maybe it's because I am now listening to the remastered version, but I don't have this problem any longer. It fucking kicks your ass 🤘

Also: is there a more iconic song than the title track?

Pleasure To Kill is one hell of an album. Thousands of punches to the gut performed in just under 40 minutes.

There is no doubt that this is one of 's most important albums, yet I have trouble rating it better than 3,5 out of 5.

It lacks a bit of variety and finesse to justify a higher rating. Both of which they will add on later in their career.

Moving on.

Extreme Aggression is as old as my wife, but the album cover doesn't look as good.
There is some resemblance with Deep Purple's "In Rock" though.

The title track of however is another classic, a fantastic thrasher that introduces some really nice melodic solos.

@derthomas They had intended to have proper artwork for this too, but they didn't like the first one they got and there was no time for another.

In Mille's own words, from the remastered version booklet.

Pretty sure Mille has told the story a bunch of times in interviews and on social media (was it among the "Kreator facts" posts they shared before the remasters came out? can't remember). Anyway, it was easier to just take the album out now.

In Mille's own words from the booklet of the remastered Extreme Aggression, about the band photo used for the cover: "Karl (Walterbach, Noise Records owner) suggested we should go for this idea, and as there was no time for anything else, we agreed. The photo was done at a shoot in Berlin, when we were in the studio there."

After the "Back to Live" show in Innsbruck in August 2021, Ventor, who was the first to come out, got assaulted with requests to play stuff from Endorama in the future. So if they choose to bring something back live, it's going to be a dream come true for some people in the audience.

I'd be curious to know what you think about newer live versions, though for Europe after the Rain there aren't many good ones (just a few recorded at festivals and the one on Past Life Trauma, all the others are really bad quality) and none of them really new, most recent is Wacken 2008 (from the Phantom Antichrist bonus DVD).

derthomas,
@derthomas@metalhead.club avatar

@kreatorfangirls it did, yes. You can tell that he was experimenting and, as you read I guess, I am not always enjoying that 🫣

What's your favourite album in terms of vocals?

kreatorfangirls,
@kreatorfangirls@metalhead.club avatar

@derthomas That's a tough one... can't say I'm fully decided on which is his peak vocal moment. But I first listened to them after they switched to Nuclear Blast. So I'm always going to be partial to the new thrash era albums.

derthomas,
@derthomas@metalhead.club avatar

@kreatorfangirls I love his vocals from the new thrash era. This was also when I "discovered" Kreator. I knew the name of but never listened to them, but then in 2016 I saw them at a festival and I was hooked ever since. They started the set with Enemy Of God (here's the setlist: https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/kreator/2016/donauinsel-vienna-austria-23fec4c7.html )

I started my Metaljourney because I never really listened to their pre 2000 stuff, and that needed to change.
