@jwz The most interesting aspect of SXSW still around is Bruce Sterling, making his annual trek from Ibiza, Turino, etc. to drop by his old digs, in order to lay down a fresh layer of fallout over the dystopia he fled from.
@donw There was a solid decade where the music festival was amazing.
Then their primary booker died, and after that, instead of new acts you couldn't see anywhere else, bands only got booked if they were already in a Doritos commercial.
The tech conference was always trash for trash people, of course.
The film festival seemed ok but was crushed under the weight of the other two.
@jwz@donw 2004, a buddy and me take a cab to a party somewhere on the outskirts of town. We arrived just as the cops busted up the party. A hoard of zombies descended on our cab for a ride out, and somehow a very drunk David Cross got in and left with us. Bands I remember; Franz Ferdinand, The Dears, Broken Social Scene, and Pretty Girls Make Graves
