If someone is claiming that any bad outcome is the result of DEI they are saying that they think Black and brown people and women are inferior to white men.
There is no other reasonable way to interpret those statements.
We know that recruitment and retention are just worse for marginalized people, even with the same qualifications.
Repeated studies have shown that women with the same qualifications are given less money and promoted less, and that resumes with African American-sounding names get interviews at lower rates than the exact same resumes with European American-sounding names.
DEI has never been anything but an attempt to level those inequalities.
Right-wingers who decry the evils of DEI want you to believe that these programs make workplaces somehow no longer a meritocracy.
But we know that because of nepotism, legacy college admissions, unconscious (and conscious) bias, hostile workplaces, an a myriad of other unfair practices, nothing has ever truly been a meritocracy.
So: what is it about giving everyone a more equal chance that scares conservatives so much?
@tess it's like a weird twist on imposter syndrome where they're afraid everyone will realize the "meritocracy" is bullshit and they'll be found wanting.
