This is one of those stories you read and think, “No way this is how that works…” And then go and “do your own research” and find out…HOLY SHIT! This is how those things work! 😳
@KingShawn Huh. We had something similar as portable emergency breathing equipment on US navy ships (including subs, like I was on). After pulling the start string, you tap it on your mask to confirm the pin came out to start the reaction. There would also be a bit of smoke in the mask at first.The canisters get ridiculously hot and have to be ejected (really just dropped) from the rig because they couldn't be safely handled for awhile.
