urgh...kept mysteriously seeing free space on my boot drive disappear. tonight it went to just a few Mb. after much investigation...it was an apparently corrupted imap mail folder file in thunderbird's profile which grew to about 150Gb and got bigger each time TB was trying the compact it. nuked it, and the freshly redownloaded folder is now about 15Mb. christ on a bike...
today's follow-up activity: looking at the sheer amount of shit dotfile folders left behind by some tools in windows... .cargo, .gradle, and all sorts of other bits from build tools that i've long uninstalled). spring cleaning time...
@patrick_h_lauke Wow that is a good fail mode to learn about. I only run Thunderbird occasionally to back up my gmail but was powering it up just a few hours ago.
@jessamyn i am living on the edge and running beta, so that may have caused the original corruption, mind. still, good to keep an eye on this every now and again (thankfully with imap can just nuke local copy and re-download from server)
on the plus side, i uncovered and nuked lots of old unused shite in my AppData folder, and uninstalled ancient programmes that i've not been using in aeons
