Reason 14,456 Mastodon is better than Twitter: Yesterday after Iran launched its massive missle and drone strike on Israel, Twitter was awash with FUD about how Biden had started WWIII.
I’m not kidding, the entire site was one conspiracy thread after another that world war 3 was about to start. Air traffic closed over Washington DC, Netanyahu had left Israel in the only jet allowed to fly there, accompanied by spurious screenshots of air traffic radar. It’s still happening NOW.
@gedeonm amazing, innit. I'm still on it bc of people I follow, but I would never have joined today's Twitter. Enshittification was gradual even before the takeover, and I gout used to it slowly.
But an event like yesterday and omg it becomes obvious what a cesspit it has become.
@gedeonm That jet was on Mastodon too, when I tried to look into it I couldn't find it on FlightRadar and the link to the Spanish speaking Telegram channel didn't work.
@xgebi I think the big difference is that on Twitter there’s an algorithm that pushes this crap into your timeline. If you see it on Mastodon, it’s because you chose to follow it yourself.
@gedeonm I think part of this is that a lot of Christofascists really want it to happen. Sure, they say they’re furious at Biden for it, but they think these events will kick off the Second Coming and they’ll all go to heaven while everyone they hate is sent to hell, and they are so excited for that to occur.
I checked in on x yesterday, and mostly missed it.
My useless notifications were stuffed with a bit of argumentative mob thought, some thread replies were, but that was more ‘tude than content or agenda
