On M4 iPad Pro "bend protection":

"Apple's senior VP John Ternus reveals that Apple has added a new protective "cowling" over main logic board...not only helps with heat dissipation, but also "effectively creates a central rib that runs through the whole thing and tremendously improves the stiffness"

@davemark going ‘thin’ seemed a stupid move. Not sure anyone cares, but I guess there will be possible fatigue handholding the 13 inch. Or wanting to sell cases. Who knows.

This supermarket is wild even for German standards.

At the cashier line instead of sweets there are pregnancy tests, condoms, wodka, mixed wodka with energy drinks, cigarettes and pokemon cards.

All a man needs

Chancerubbage,

@grillchen @Binder that’s a convenience store point of sale line up, supermarkets in the states aren’t so crass. They might dip into pokeman cards and energy drinks maybe.

And fucking is outlawed in 24 states.

Anyone out there a fan of air fryers?

Went to a dinner last night, folks were raving about their air fryers. This something worth exploring? A fad?

I'm particularly interested in cooking veggies, like broccoli, zucchini, etc. This better than roasting in an oven?

Chancerubbage,
@Chancerubbage@mastodon.social avatar

@davemark they seem to be a fave of people trying to avoid deep frying (people hate handling and storing oil). 90% of the people I know that use them are eating chicken wings and frozen french fries.

The ad breaks on YouTube are getting ridiculous...I can't even watch a 40 second video without being interrupted....

Chancerubbage,
@Chancerubbage@mastodon.social avatar

@trinitybat @Binder

It used to be hilarious when a 3 minute vid would have some 45 minute preroll ad placement some poor fool had paid for. Of course I skipped it, at least you could then.

You want your ads seen? Make them short and to the point. They will still work with your target audience without alienating the possible converts.

@davemark those are great tripods, a bit aspirational for me however. All their stuff looks well designed, if somewhat frail possibly. Be great to have, pricy to own unless you needed it daily.

How many people still buy and use physical calendars? Whether wall, or desk? And how old are you?

Chancerubbage,
@Chancerubbage@mastodon.social avatar

@Da_Gut @Binder

Still use physical calendars.

It’s about granularity and what I can glance at at once. I do not need a daily (hour, minute) schedule which is the default on many ‘computer calendars’, my needs are more like week, month, year.

I go to computer calendars
most often when determining what year June 17th fell on a Saturday, that sort of thing.

First, it’s great that @MichaelWhelan is on Mastodon. What an amazing artist.

Second, his recent post featured a spherical alien that I instantly recognized from my childhood. https://mastodon.art/@MichaelWhelan/112428886103083708

It’s from this book, published in 1980, which had a cover image that is also burned into my brain.

Chancerubbage,
@Chancerubbage@mastodon.social avatar

@siracusa I haven’t found confirmation that John Berkey was also a Matte Painter for the movies, but I think he was. He had a way of choosing the right colors and suggesting more detail than was in the painting with a few parallel and perpendicular marks suggesting realistic highlights. I had the movie poster for Delaurentus King Kong that he did, you could get lost in the cityscape that ‘wasn’t’ there.

Of course many space ships on paperbacks with all sorts of radio antennas poking out of them

This is about an hour away from my farm, so this'll be a fun conversation, and yet another great opportunity to tell a lot of people about what a huge problem we have with unregulated commercialization of orbit. (Also I just redid my slides for my public talk next week, this is going in!)

I think they just wanted to warn they use vanilla bean so there might be black specks in it, because presumably someone complained about the black specks?

But don’t condescend to your customers by fluffing up your dishes. Be confident in serving as they were in ordering it, let it speak for itself.

    @davemark if that has a 16:9 ratio of most iPhones- 6.55 diagonal describes an iPhone pro max. Nothing Skinny about it. It is 3.21 inches on its shortest side, wider than iPhone 14 Pro in my hand.
