A random thought on a Sunday morning as I look at my backyard:

Interior decorating is easier than landscape design because the furniture and pictures don't keep growing. Everything stays the same color and the same size.

Adding: I live on the Central California Coast, so by color I meant that the succulents sometimes turn yellow and during flooding I get green stuff on the bricks.

@Teri_Kanefield Sure, but my landscape architect wife would point out that you can't save money by buying a small ottoman and just watering it occasionally until it turns into a four-seat sofa.

@Teri_Kanefield (Also: any chance you know a Central Coast lawyer named Stacy Inman? She was a friend of mine at King Hall.)

@msbellows

I don't know her. I moved here after I stopped practicing.

@Teri_Kanefield Where are you? We've spent a fair amount of time in SLO, Pismo, and Santa Maria. Love them all.

@Teri_Kanefield Absolutely! I studied landscape design in college and the number of moving parts in any design decision was mind boggling. Never did go into the business because I realized most customers don't like to think in those terms.

@GailV37

I was goint to plant something and asked "Will this be a problem later?" and the arborist said, "Eventually."

I don't want a problem later.

Do you visit the Getty Center, in the L.A. area? There, the late artist Robert Irwin created the Central Garden, an evolving landscape particularly intended to grow and change with the seasons.

Aside from this hyper-attentive work of "art," would anyone know that L.A. even has changes of seasons?

Sadly, the genius, Irwin, died just six months ago, at age 95. But I see that I risk veering off-topic in relation to changing landscapes, so I'll sign off.😎

@Teri_Kanefield yup. The dimensions don’t change, but the furniture does. Sometimes it even sprouts right outta the floor. Dirt, I mean dirt.

@Teri_Kanefield But the changes and growth mean that it’s never the same, day after day, season after season.
