Finally published my blog post about sleep!

I have sleep issues. So everything I have to do in order to sleep, I figured out through trial and error over the years.

Hopefully something I wrote helps someone.

@dyani thanks for this. i've been on some heavy-duty pharmaceuticals for many years and i am trying to reduce but it's tough. i got rid of seroquel because it's a terrible drug, but i have trouble sleeping all the way through the night without it. i still take 4mg of lunesta, and 75mg of trazodone (which i increased from 50mg to make up for the absence of seroquel), but i'm afraid i'm gonna have to bump up to 100mg because i am just not sleeping well these days.

my new psychiatrist is not thrilled about my massive drug regimen (i also take 3 antidepressants and a mood stabilizer) and wants me to cut down on things. i'm like, if it worked, i'd be glad to, but... 🙄

@rothko oh my goodness, that sounds like work taking all that stuff! what happens when you take antihistamines, if you ever do? for some people apparently it doesn't have the effect of causing drowsiness. i'm curious if it would work for you like it does for me.

and do you do any of the other sensory stuff (besides face mask since you already mentioned that one)

@dyani i've never actually tried using antihistamines. my main problem isn't getting to sleep, it's staying asleep through the night without waking up every couple hours. if i don't get the really deep sleep happening, i remain drowsy throughout the daytime.

weighted blanket didn't do that much for me. i'm not great about the basic stuff like no screens before bed or cutting down on caffeine. i do try to avoid caffeine after 2 or 3pm, but that's about the extent of it.

@rothko the antihistamines help me with the stay asleep part very well! even for big things that usually destroy my sleep like having to get up to go to the bathroom, or being woken up by some noise or a cat jumping on my head 😹

have you tried magnesium? i don't think i linked to the magnesium capsules i take, but it's a very bioavalable form (not all magnesium is easily used by the body) and that is very important for my body. and i've heard it's important for ND bodies specifically.

@dyani @rothko I too have trouble staying asleep. I used to use temazepam for sleep, but my current psychiatrist won’t give me any. My pharmacist wouldn’t sell me promethazine (an antihistamine) because it might interact with my mood stabiliser. I checked the intersection, and it’s “could cause drowsiness”. That’s what need!!

@purplepadma @dyani oh man, that sucks... i am toying with the idea of finding a different psychiatrist, but i suspect they're all gonna tell me the same thing -- i'm on too many meds and i need to reduce. dammit, if it ain't broke, don't fix it!!
