@paul My somewhat optimistic take is that years ago, Apple prepaid for a whole lot of ads and guaranteed priority on the platform. The more optimistic take is that this is limiting current revenue into Twitter and large banks of Apple lawyers regularly remind Musk that he can neither back down nor disclose its existence.
@paul Given Musk’s cis comment, I’m surprised Apple didn’t halt its presence. I’m amazed it then extended it. What is the red line? Maybe there isn’t one.
@serichards@paul I don’t see it. Apple makes shrewd investments that align with its business model. Buying a toxic social network seems reckless and a massive waste of money, along with being a resource-sucking headache.
@paul Apple plays politics like they care, but then repeatedly show they don't actually care if the bottom line is better doing the opposite. I'm sure someone on a marketing team said this move would have better return.
@paul Well they aren't going to put it on a Google platform for one, and two putting it free in the app requires someone to go looking for it. Seeing free while browsing a social media sight might get someone to stop and watch.

@paul Have Apple not always been one of Twitter’s biggest spending advertisers though? Hence why Tim Cook was able to summon Elon to Cupertino when the whole App Store fee thing happened last year. So maybe Twitter users in particular are open to Apple products and content for some reason?
Looks like the episode is free to all on the TV+ app too though.
@paul It’s about reach. For most people, nothing much has changed on Twitter. There may be a few weird ads or followers, but that’s basically it.
Me, I’ve seen literally 12 times the exact same crypto scam from 12 different accounts in the last 48 hours on Twitter. Something that never happened in the previous 12 years of me being on Twitter.
